- History: Midtjylland have won 30 of 56 all-time H2H meetings in all competitions, making them favourites to win again this Saturday.
- Recent form: SønderjyskE have defended solidly against the best teams in the country with only 4 goals conceded in their last five Superliga matches, which have seen them win 2, draw 2 and lose 1.
- Betting market: The Over 2.5 goals market looks short odds at 1.45 due to this fixture’s history of goals and the fact the hosts are desperate to win.
FCM dominate the H2H record
Odds and standings
Midtjylland are favourites for this game with the bookmakers at around 1.44 with SønderjyskE set as long shots at 6.2 and the draw 4.75. The hosts are in second place in the Superliga Championship group on about 46 points and still in contention to take the title as the league enters its decisive phase. SønderjyskE are third on about 36 and have been solid enough in their first five Superliga Championship round games to suggest they will qualify for Europe again and secure top-table status.
Head-to-head and match-up
FC Midtjylland are the dominant side in this fixture with 30 wins from 56 previous encounters and they should have enough to beat SønderjyskE again this weekend. But the visitors are solid enough to keep it close, particularly if the home side rotate for this clash and are without some key attacking players.
Style and tactics
Mike Tullberg has his FCM side playing an attacking, pressing 3-4-3 system with the wing-backs providing the width and the midfield three and front three working the ball into the final third to break the defensive lines. They have played this way through the winter and into the spring, coping well with the demands of the Europa League and domestic duties since Tullberg took over in September 2025.
FCM have the firepower to break through
Franculino Djú, FCM’s leading goalscorer, is their key attacking weapon and always a threat when he plays, but his injury record suggests he may not be fit for this one. They still have Cho Gue-sung to call upon however, who is a different sort of weapon having scored the winner at Nottingham Forest and being a targetman who can hold the ball up and finish with clinical strikes.
Júnior Brumado has also added to the firepower recently and can start or come off the bench as a versatile option for Tullberg, who always looks to press and play at a high tempo. He will need to do that against SønderjyskE this weekend as their five-game run of 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss has seen them keep things very tight.
Thomas Nørgaard has a different problem to solve as his side will need to set up a compact midfield block to withstand the home pressure while keeping a disciplined shape. The 4-2-3-1 system that SønderjyskE use is all about transition with the midfield two and wide players, such as Lirim Qamili, providing the creative spark.

SønderjyskE set up to be compact
Qamili has contributed goals and assists in the Superliga this season and has the pace and energy to get back in defence when his side are under pressure. That’s something SønderjyskE have done very well so far in the Championship round with clean sheets against Brøndby and OB and a 1-0 win over the latter.
Tobias Sommer has been a revelation in his central-defensive role, distributing the ball well and controlling the game from the back. Nørgaard’s defensive set-up has allowed SønderjyskE to climb the table and stay there, but they will probably be undone by FCM’s attacking prowess.
The weather is expected to be cool and clear for Saturday’s game at the MCH Arena in Herning, which should be good for attacking football on natural grass. FCM have scored nine goals in their last three domestic games, all in February, but their two league games in March were both lower-scoring.
The last three Superliga H2Hs have been epic games with 21 goals scored in total, but SønderjyskE can keep it tight again and secure a result if the bookmakers are right in their odds. But FCM are hard to go against in this clash of styles and a home win is the main recommendation for this match, despite the short odds.
