- Team form: FK Rubin Kazan have won three and drawn two of their last five league games.
- Visitors form: Akron Tolyatti have lost four and drawn one of their last five.
An interesting tactical battle in Kazan
Akron Tolyatti will travel to Kazan on Saturday to face off against FK Rubin Kazan who are in decent form coming into this one and will look to keep the good times rolling when they host the league’s 12th-placed side.
Franc Artiga has been in charge at the Kazan Arena since January 2026 and has since implemented a possession-based system, which is structured and patient, but also allows his team to adapt to different situations and pressure opponents. Rubin set up in a 3-4-2-1 formation in the last match but sometimes switches to a 3-5-2, where the focus is on controlling the centre of the pitch while the wing-backs provide width and allow the team to stretch the play.
The visitors set up in a completely different manner, lining up in a high-tempo 4-3-3 system which has rapid transitions at the heart of their play. Zaur Tedeyev has built a team with a high-intensity press, one that will always look to win the ball back quickly and hit on the counter-attack. The flanks are where Akron get a lot of their joy, with the full-backs often pushing up to support the front three, as the attacking players stay narrow and look to utilise space in behind the opposition defence.
Rubin can dominate the play
Positions and goalscorers
Rubin Kazan currently sit in 8th position in the Premier League 2025/2026 with 34 points from 24 games, while the visitors are in 12th spot with 22 points from their 24 matches. Mirlind Daku has been the main attacking threat for the hosts this season with nine goals in 19 league games, while Akron will hope the reliable veteran Artem Dzyuba will score the goals, as he has seven in 22 league matches for the club.
Recent meetings and form
- The most recent head to head matchup ended 2-2 in Akron Tolyatti, a result which makes it four wins and one draw from the last five meetings between these two sides.
- However, the guests have never taken the points on their previous two visits to the Kazan Arena and they’re on a poor run of form, making the odds of a home win look good here.
- Rubin Kazan have won seven, drawn three and lost two of their 12 home matches this term and should be able to control the game against a struggling Akron outfit.
- Akron have won four, drawn one and lost seven of their 12 road matches and have lost their last two consecutive games away from home.
An intriguing game on the cards
The stats for both of these sides suggest a goal-filled affair is on the horizon. Rubin have scored an average of 1.17 goals per home game in the league this term, scoring 14 goals on home soil, while Akron have scored an average of 1.25 away from home, scoring 15 times on their travels.
We’re expecting Rubin Kazan to win here, and given the form of both teams, their strong home record and the fact that they’ve won four of their previous five meetings, we’re going for a home victory. Over 2.5 goals looks good here, but Akron have been really poor in front of goal of late and Rubin have been very solid at the back, so we’re also going for Both Teams to Score - No, which has attractive odds in this one.
