- Home form: GAIS have won two of their last three home games (D1), which makes their home turf a tough place to visit.
- Head-to-head: Elfsborg have failed to win on two of their last visits to GAIS and lost their most recent head-to-head with the Blue Stars 0-2.
GAIS have their game plan in the bag
Form and momentum
GAIS are a tough nut to crack at the moment and they arrive at Gamla Ullevi on Sunday in much better form than their visitors IF Elfsborg. The Blue Stars have won three, drawn one and lost just one of their last five in all competitions, while the 2006 Allsvenskan champions are in mixed-to-sloppy form (D4, L1).
Coaching and standings
Fredrik Holmberg has done a great job at GAIS since being appointed as their Head Coach in November 2021 and his high-tempo, aggressive pressing game has this team geared up nicely for the 2026 campaign. GAIS are seventh with 15 points from 11 games and Elfsborg are fourth with 18 from 12, which is a reflection of the gap between the sides at this moment in time.
GAIS edge the recent head-to-head with two wins and just one defeat from their last three meetings and will surely arrive here confident of pulling off another upset. Elfsborg have drawn their last two away games and although they can stay in games, they have lacked the killer instinct to take all three points on their travels.
A game of two halves
A clash of styles looks set to ensure this is a tight contest, but GAIS look slightly better placed to nick it with the home advantage and greater momentum in their favor. Holmberg's men hunt the ball early and attack vertically, while Elfsborg build-up from the back and favour a width-over-depth approach with selective pressing.
Bjoern Hamberg has done a decent job since taking over as Elfsborg's Head Coach in February 2026, but he has not been able to completely iron out their weaknesses. They have still managed to score seven times on their five away trips.
Best value could be both teams to score no
GAIS's home form is a solid W3, D2 and L1 and they have only conceded two goals on their home turf for a 0.33 goals against average. The visitors will be desperate to put points on the board after this run of draws, but GAIS's pressing could disrupt their flow and make them uncomfortable.
The best odds on the game looks to be GAIS at 2.1, but Elfsborg and the draw are both 3.38, so a smart alternative angle here could be Both Teams to Score: No at 1.95.
- Samuel Salter leads the scoring in Allsvenskan 2026 with three goals from 11 games for GAIS, but Rasmus Niklasson Petrovic has given his side some bite of late with two goals in their last five.
- Leo Oestman is Elfsborg's top scorer and he has four goals from 12 in the league plus two more in their current five-match unbeaten run.
