Manchester United look a little bit clunky at the moment and they could fall victim to an upset from flying Sabah FK in Thursday's UEFA Champions League 2026-2027 game at Old Trafford.
It's still very early days under Michael Carrick, who has set up The Red Devils in a neat 4-2-3-1 system and gets his players to be patient in build-up play, while also encouraging them to make sudden runs in behind the opposition.
However, the visitors have a similar system with Valdas Dambrauskas doing a very good job of getting his Owls compact off the ball and deadly on the counter.
Sabah FK are sharper and can nick it
That clash of styles looks set to be a classic possession vs counter game and the Owls are the sharper of the two right now.
They arrive in Manchester on a three-game winning streak, coming into this game on the back of a 5-2 extra-time win over Hapoel Beer-Sheva in UEFA Champions League qualifying, a 1-0 away win at Araz Nakhchivan PFK in the Azerbaijan Premier League and a 5-0 home thrashing of FK Zira.
That kind of momentum can't be ignored and it's dangerous to underestimate the visitors, who are coming to Old Trafford with a confidence that United don't possess right now.
United have yet to find their rhythm
The hosts lost 2-0 at Hull City last weekend and appeared to respond well with a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at home, but then drew 2-2 at Everton, so it's very hard to know what to expect from them.
Players and market view:
- Joy-Lance Mickels is the livewire for Sabah FK right now, having scored four of the team's 12 goals in their last five games, while Bryan Mbeumo has been a bright spark for United, netting three of the Old Trafford club's ten goals in their most recent five matches.
