Differing styles set up chess match in Varnamo
Recent form and management
With Ă–sters IF on a losing run of three straight games and IK Brage Borlange on a hot and cold run of results, the form book points to a tight and tense affair when the two sides meet in Superettan 2026 on Saturday. Daniel Friberg's side, who were appointed on 22 May, 2026, have been trying to find a rhythm since he took charge and have won two and lost three of their last five.
Playing styles and away form
The two teams have distinctly different styles at the moment, with Friberg's Östers playing a pragmatic, compact game with a lower tempo and selective pressing, while Anders Bååth-Sjöblom's men, who took charge on 1 January 2026, are set up to be more aggressive and push players forward. Brage's away form hasn't been too bad in 2026 with three wins, one draw and three losses from seven Superettan away trips, but they have conceded nine on their travels.
Brage’s forward play might edge it
Ă–sters have been better at home than away in Sweden's second tier this season, registering four wins, one draw and two losses from their seven home assignments. That's why the bookmakers have them as slight favorites at 2.14, ahead of Brage at 2.92 and the draw at 3.78, but there's plenty of merit in the draw here.
The fact that Ă–sters secured a 4-1 Svenska Cupen win over Brage four months ago and the visitors have drawn one and lost one of their two away trips this calendar year also appeals. It could be a draw, but we're leaning towards the visitors because they are the more positive side and might get the most joy from an open game.
Linus Carlstrand is their main goal man with eight in 13 appearances in the 2026 Superettan and he has scored four of the nine they have scored in their last five.
Both teams capable of scoring and making big plays
Ă–sters' last two matches were a 2-1 away defeat to Varbergs BoIS FC in the 2026 season of Superettan and a 0-3 home loss to Lyngby BK in a friendly, so they will be a little down and probably happy to have a game against this Brage side.
It's hard to call, but we like Brage because they press and push forward while Ă–sters are looking to sit deep, stay compact and counter.
Over 2.5 goals at 1.38 looks about right in terms of the odds on offer, but the goal odds on both teams scoring at 1.37 is our preference because there will be goals at both ends in a game where the playing styles clash.
- Gustav Nordh is Brage's main outlet and has seven goals in 14 appearances in the 2026 edition of the Superettan.
- He has five goals in Brage's last five games during which time they have put away 13.
- Ă–sters are averaging 1.29 goals per game at home in 2026, so they have a decent attack, but not the type to blow a team away.
