Tom Cleverley's Plymouth Argyle FC enter Saturday's League One clash with Barnsley FC in much better shape than the Tykes did when they last faced off five months ago. The Pilgrims ran out 3-0 winners in the corresponding fixture in League One 2025/2026, but the two sides are locked together on points this time around with Plymouth 13th on seven points from five games and Barnsley 14th on seven from five.
Plymouth are the odds-on favorites for this one, with The Pilgrims priced at 1.84, Barnsley at 3.75 and the draw at 3.9. Although the hosts are in much better form, Barnsley's away record is too too good to ignore.

Plymouth come into this contest in good form after beating Bradford City 2-0 at home and Doncaster Rovers 3-2 on the road, either side of a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.
- Barnsley were also rolling along nicely before a shock 1-5 loss to Stevenage Borough at Oakwell last time out, having beaten Blackpool 2-1 at home and gone unbeaten in two away games in all competitions (W1, D1).
- The hosts have won one of their last two meetings with Barnsley, although they have won one and lost one of their home games this season, while the visitors have been in better shape on their travels, which gives us reason to believe the underdogs can get a result.
Barnsley’s identity and press can cause problems
The stats and recent results point to Barnsley traveling well on Saturday and make life difficult for the home side, and Daniel Stendel's high press and high line should cause all sorts of issues for the compact 4-4-2 formation that Cleverley has installed at Plymouth. Barnsley will try to press Plymouth into errors in the attacking third while The Pilgrims will look to absorb the pressure and hit the channels on the transition.
That could swing it either way, but Barnsley's press and transition play makes us think this should be an entertaining, open game. Over 2.5 goals at 1.53 is our main play and both teams to score at 1.48 to a game that should see plenty of front-foot soccer from both sides.
