Promotion-seekers welcome relegation-battlers
SC Verl 1924 have lost some ground in the promotion race recently, and their form has been inconsistent since the turn of the year. They have won one, drawn one, and lost three of their last five games, although that run of games did include a 2-0 home victory over mid-table Viktoria Koeln 1904.
Verl have been an exciting watch this season, with manager Tobias Strobl playing a high-tempo vertical game, with a good level of pressing, and the players often making their way into the box with pacey, direct play. The hosts will look to overload the wide areas and half-spaces, and have been known to do some serious damage to teams who have failed to keep pace.
TSV Havelse are no strangers to this type of game themselves, and they have improved their own performances of late, winning three and losing two of their last five, including a 3-2 home win over VfB Stuttgart II last time out.
TSV’s upturn in form should spell goals at both ends
Tactics
Samir Ferchichi’s men typically set up a deep, compact, or low-to-medium block, soaking up pressure and then breaking when they can, preferably with a direct pass or a set-piece routine.
Recent meetings and odds
- The last head-to-head clash in this edition of the 3. Liga 2025/2026 ended 2-2, and although that result shows that Havelse can make life difficult for the home side, they lack the finishing touch to see the job through at home.
- SC Verl 1924 are 1.22 odds-on to win on Saturday, which seems generous considering how tight the fixture was last time, and their home record, as well as the fact they’re above TSV in the table, probably has more to do with this than the recent upturn in the visitor’s performances.
- Over 2.5 goals is 1.25, and although this fixture has goals in it, that price seems extremely low for a game played between two teams who are aiming for opposite ends of the table - Both teams to score is 1.55, which is a much more palatable selection.
Verl’s attack should cause problems for Havelse
With a clash of styles such as this, it seems likely that the home team will look to push the ball wide and overload the wings, and Havelse will be looking to break and counter-attack. Verl will be pushing for a victory to aid their promotion push, while Havelse will be desperate for the points as they seek to pull away from the relegation zone.
All in all, I think this should be a very lively game with plenty of action at both ends, but I’m sticking with the hosts to win it.
