- Home form: Sheffield United have won one, drawn one and lost one of their last three home games
- Head-to-head: Sheffield United have the edge in the recent head-to-head record with two wins and one draw from the last three meetings in the Championship
- Away form: Blackburn have failed to win their last two away games against Sheffield United
Blades could sharpen their teeth on Rovers
Sheffield United are running in the right direction under Chris Wilder with the Blades’ manager making an immediate impact since taking over in September 2025. The hosts are playing well with some verve and structure that they have not shown for most of the campaign, with Gustavo Hamer pulling the strings.
Wilder’s side have won their last two games against Hull City and Watford, but they still sit 12th in the Championship standings with 57 points from 43 games. The Blades will want to finish on a high and there is still time to make up some ground in the league with a game against 21st-placed Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday. Rovers have made progress under Michael O’Neill, who took charge in February 2026, but their away form has been patchy with eight wins, four draws and 10 losses from 22 attempts.
O’Neill’s Rovers have a clear gameplan
O’Neill’s side are solid in defense and can be a real handful to break down, preferring to contain and counter-attack when they can. The last game was a perfect example of Rovers’ approach with Rovers containing their opponents and counter-attacking to secure a draw.
That was a third draw in their last five Championship games, but it is also a sign of O’Neill’s clear gameplan that can help Rovers finish on a decent note. The other two games in that sequence were a 3-0 away defeat to Southampton and a 3-1 home loss to Sheffield United. The hosts have scored 1.67 goals per game and conceded 1.29 at home in the Championship this season, which looks about right based on a 3-1 win at Rovers five months ago.
Hamer’s influence is a big plus for the home side
Formation and style
Sheffield United play with a back three and high-energy wing-backs that make them a real force when the game is in transition.
Key players and threats
The home team have the momentum and are in a better league position than Rovers, so the odds of 1.71 on a Sheffield United win are fair enough given there is a clash of styles in this late-season encounter.
- They can get forward in numbers with Hamer the glue in the middle, and they will look to exploit the flanks when they have the ball.
- Patrick Bamford has nine goals in 24 appearances in the Championship and can be an outlet in attack, but Wilder will have plenty of faith in Hamer to manage the game, particularly in set-pieces, and score a few goals himself.
- Blackburn can be really tough to break down and will be content to contain Sheffield United and nick a goal on a counterattack with Yuki Ohashi, who has eight goals in 44 league appearances, often their main outlet.
