- Team form: SpVgg Greuther Furth are on a hot streak with four wins in their last five games.
- Nurnberg form: FC Nurnberg are on a five-game unbeaten streak (W2, D3).
- Home form: Furth are a tough nut to crack at home with three wins and a draw in four games in all competitions (W3, D1).
Franconian derby should be close with some end-to-end play
Saturday's game at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer looks a lot closer than the odds suggest with both clubs having different records in the build-up to the matchup.
SpVgg Greuther Furth have won four of their last five in all competitions, extending their winning streak to three, while FC Nurnberg are unbeaten in their last five (D3, W2) so the visitors aren't red-hot.
Heiko Vogel took over as Furth head coach on 1 December 2025 and has built a team that can play with a back three or a four-man back line, depending on the opponent. It keeps the opposition guessing and has helped make them a tough team to crack, particularly at home.
Vogel’s men are versatile
Furth's approach:
Furth's style of play is very compact and transition-based with selective pressing and a desire to hit their opponents on the counterattack when they are in possession.
Key stats:
- The Kleeblatter have also been in the habit of scoring in bunches with seven in their last five matches and Felix Klaus on fire with three goals in his last four games.
- Vogel's side have won three and drawn one of their four home games in all competitions, averaging 2.25 goals per game for and conceding just 0.75.
- Nurnberg have been less than convincing on the road, conceding eight goals across their five unbeaten trips (W1, D4) at an average of 1.60.
Nurnberg's profile:
Nurnberg have been a bit more clinical with Mohamed Ali Zoma scoring four of their eight goals in the last five. Miroslav Klose took over on 11 June 2024 and has implemented a 4-2-3-1 system where his side try to control the ball and work their patterns.
It might be a little too patient for this derby, but Nurnberg can certainly carve out chances against a side that presses when it suits.
Goals are likely in Franconia
The last 2. Bundesliga meeting of these sides, in 2025/26, finished 1-1 at this ground and the past five have been close with Fur th winning one, Nurnberg taking two and two draws.
Over 2.5 goals is 1.59 compared to Under 2.5 at 2.27, so it looks as if the market is set for an open scrap.
Our belief is that this could be a goal-fest in Franconia as the visitors play their best soccer with the ball, but they could get caught on counter-attack against a home side that has had a sharper edge in recent weeks.
Furth to win and both teams to score appeals more than the straight home win, which is available at better odds than we would take.
