Brest are a live long shot against Lyon at Francis-Le Ble
Stade Brestois 29 could well prove their home advantage in Ligue 1 2026/2027 on Sunday against a Lyon side that are coming off an away loss and a draw after a very solid home performance. The Pirates are 10th in the table with 12 points from nine games, while Lyon are 3rd with 17, and on paper at least, the visitors look the sharper side.
Les Gones won the last head-to-head clash 2-1 in Ligue 1 2025/2026, but haven't won on either of their last two visits to Francis-Le Blé, where the odds about a home win are very appealing indeed.
Tolisso and Nuamah can provide Lyon with a cutting edge
Tactics and recent form
Jorge Maciel has kept things flexible for Lyon in a 4-3-3 system, but their pressing and midfield spacing have looked a touch inconsistent since he took over as coach – much like the club's recent results. Les Gones lost 2-0 away to PSG and followed up with a 1-1 draw at Real Sociedad in the Europa League last time out.
That makes for an inconsistent rhythm of results, but they can get back on track here with a win if their midfield spacing is good and they get some runs against the Pirates, who are direct and can be a little slow on the transition.
Key players and threats
- Kamory Doumbia (four goals in five Ligue 1 2026/2027) is the main spark for Brest in the final third, but Ludovic Ajorque (three in last five) has been in good form as the hosts have hit 10 times in their last five.
- Corentin Tolisso has chipped in with two goals in Lyon's last five and his link-up play, as well as Ernest Nuamah (three goals in Ligue 1 2026/2027), should give them the edge in the advanced areas.
Brest are capable of pinching the win
Julien Lachuer has Brest set up in a compact 4-2-3-1 formation and they are a team that moves the ball well in possession, but their style of play should also create plenty of chances at the other end if Lyon leave space between the lines. Les Pirates come into this game after a 1-1 draw at Lille, a 1-2 home defeat to Nice and a 0-2 win away at Lorient, so they're starting to build some momentum for this contest.
A Breton home win is the selection and odds of 2.84 on that selection look very attractive, while Over 2.5 goals is a good play at 1.67 and both teams to score – No at 2.3 suggests one of these sides will get blanked, which seems likely given their contrasting styles.
