Dartford’s style and quality should see them through
Saturday's FA Cup 2026 Third Qualifying Round game between Tadley Calleva and Dartford FC will be a match-up between two teams that have never previously met in competitive match, so it's a David vs Goliath match-up to savour at Barlow's Park.
Dartford arrive as the heavy favorites in this one and the markets have them coming in at a price of 1.32 to progress through to the next round. At this price, it's an easy pass for us as a betting option, however, we do expect a professional performance from The Darts to see them through to the fourth round of FA Cup qualification.
Tadley are mid-table in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South, currently sitting around 10th in the table on 11-12 points after 8-9 games. They're unbeaten through their FA Cup qualification so far, beating Hamble Club 3-1, Laverstock & Ford 3-1 and Bishop's Cleeve 1-0 before this weekend's game and their form has been solid so far in the league, dropping points in a 3-3 draw to Sutton Common Rovers in their most recent game.
Dartford currently sit near the top of the Isthmian League Premier Division, with 18 points from eight games in the official table and 21 from nine in unofficial standings, coming into this game off the back of a 3-0 win at Bowers & Pitsea, a 2-0 win at Dover, a 4-2 home win over Maidstone, a 2-0 away win at Dulwich Hamlet, a 3-0 away win at Enfield and a 2-1 home victory over Yeovil in late September.
A real clash of styles
Tadley's approach
These two teams have a real contrast in style and this will be a classic cup game. Tadley are a direct, physical, compact and set-piece reliant unit that will make it tough and try to make the game messy. They have enough energy and set pieces to give Dartford a few problems in this game and their ability to throw the ball in long, win second balls and run at their opponents quickly on the counter-attack will not be easy to manage.
Dartford's approach
Dartford are a more possession-capable unit that will try to be patient and build up from the back, but once they get into their stride they can also move the ball quickly down the wings and counterattack fast, even if they don't have the speed to make it a constant feature of the game.
Dartford have the advantage in quality and their Darts have the structure and firepower to break this down and secure the win. Ben Greenhalgh has brought his high-tempo, attacking style to Dartford as player-manager and it's working. He has been on the scoresheet, creating goals, and leading with his football brain.
Free-kicks, corners and long throws will be the home’s lifeline
However, they are not a one-man show and Brad Neal has the finishing edge that has kept them in the cup so far.
There's a two-division gap between these two and Dartford have the depth to control this match for long periods. Ryan Sandford has been a reliable last line for the Darts and his recent shutouts have given the side a bit of steel. Tadley will make things tough, but we're taking Dartford to keep things tidy and progress.
- Tadley aren't a one-man band and they do have options in the final third, with Charlie Barlow, Jordan Goater and Kyan Stephens all contributing.
- Max Fiddes has been Dartford's main danger man and he's scored braces in the cup and in the last two league games, but he's not the only man in the team that can break the deadlock and there are a few others that could step up and be the hero on Saturday.
