An end-to-end game between two contrasting sides
The 1st Division side from 2026-2027 will meet at the Vejle Stadion in Denmark on Friday, in a game that looks like a real upset pick at first glance but perhaps shouldn't be when you dig a little deeper.
Vejle Boldklub are the more established side and have won two of their last three matches, a 2-0 home victory over FC Fredericia and a 1-0 win at OB Odense in the Superliga Relegation Group 2026. However, Claus Noergaard's side have just one win, three draws and two defeats from their last six home games across all competitions and this makes them look less solid than their odds on favorite of 1.53 suggests.
The draw is set at 4.3 and AB are listed as big dark horses at 5.36, which is probably a little high when you look a bit closer. Fannar Berg Gunnolfsson's side come into this one in fine fettle, having won three of their last five matches, including a pair of emphatic home wins over Hellerup IK and Thisted FC, and are much the sharper side in terms of form.
AB have the edge in the H2H and on the road
Recent meeting:
In terms of the H2H, AB have the advantage after beating Vejle 4-3 at home in the DBU Pokalen 2023/2024, two years ago. That game finished up as a seven-goal classic and the clash of styles between the two sides could lead to an equally end-to-end contest on Friday.
Tactical battle:
Noergaard has built his Vejle side around a three-man defense, with the wing-backs providing the width in attack and the ball recovery in transition, which is a pretty solid system, but AB will try to pin Vejle back and force turnovers high up the field. Vejle will look to run through the channels and exploit the space behind the press when they have the ball, so the early duel for midfield control will go a long way to establishing the rhythm of the game.
Both sides can score in a tight Vejle win
Vejle are the favourite and perhaps should be here, but the odds and the draw price seem a bit low given that AB have a superior recent record, particularly away from home.
But the visitors have conceded nine goals in five away games and they do play a high-wire style of game, so the likeliest scenario here is a narrow Vejle win and a high-scoring game.
- AB have won four and lost one of their last five away from home across all competitions, so this looks like a legitimate banana skin rather than a comfortable win for the home side.
- Vejle's recent record is also a concern as that 1-0 win at OB Odense was only the second time in 10 matches that they have won.
- They do score goals, however, netting eight in their last six at home across all competitions, so they have the power to make the most of any openings that AB leave for them.
