- Head-to-head: Four of the last five Superliga head-to-head matches featured at least three goals.
- Midtjylland form: FC Midtjylland won three of their last five competitive games, including an impressive 1-0 Europa League victory away at Nottingham Forest.
- Viborg form: Viborg FF won three of their last five competitive matches, including a 2-1 victory over Nordsjælland, and lost the other two.
Midtjylland have momentum to push for the title
Midtjylland are 2nd in the Championship group of the Superliga 2025-2026 with approximately 46 points from their 23 matches, which will be enough to push for the title and European qualification if they can keep their momentum going.
Viborg FF are 4th with around 36 points and need to stay consistent in their quest to qualify for Europe and put pressure on the top sides. This Sunday’s game against Midtjylland is a big opportunity for both teams to get three points and boost their respective goals.
A tale of two high-pressing teams
Midtjylland
Mike Tullberg’s Midtjylland like to press hard and play a numbers game, rotating their squad across European and league campaigns. Their game is data-driven and they’re adept at exploiting transition phases, as well as attacking and defending from set pieces.
Franculino Djú leads the line and is their main goal threat, with a season tally well into double digits, and attacking midfielder Aral Şimşir creates chances.
Viborg FF
Viborg FF are a compact team with a very solid defence and a front line that can score goals, if they get their fair share of possession. Nickolai Kønig Lund has instilled plenty of discipline in the squad and the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 system allows for aggressive midfield pressing and rapid counters, where strikers Mads Søndergaard and Charly Horneman are lethal.
Jeppe Grønning is a real leader and key ball-player in midfield and also provides goals when needed.
Viborg can get a result with home advantage
The bookies have Midtjylland as favorites at 1.9, with Viborg at 3.65 and the draw at 3.7. Midtjylland have dominated this fixture in Superliga matches over the last few seasons, but Viborg have held their own at home, including a 3-3 draw in December 2025.
- Viborg’s form has been patchy, but Hjalte Bidstrup’s emergence as a real goal-scorer for the club, particularly in their 2-1 win over Nordsjælland last time out, should help to make them more consistent in the run-in.
- Midtjylland’s recent European action will have required squad rotation and could also lead to fatigue, giving Viborg a chance to snatch a point.
Transition and set pieces could hold the key
This will be a hard-fought match between two high-pressing sides looking to gain vital points in their push for European qualification. With Midtjylland’s superior league position, deeper bench of attackers and greater quality, they should be able to edge out a tight game, although home advantage and Viborg’s home resilience could keep this one tight.
Kyu-Sung Cho and Darío Osorio have made strong contributions to the first team in recent weeks, providing goals and depth in attacking areas, but they will have to work hard against Viborg’s defensive structure. The Over 2.5 goals market is well supported at 1.57, but the recent head-to-head trend suggests this will be a close game, so I’m taking the draw in the Double Chance market.
