- Altach form: Altach are unbeaten in their last five in all competitions (W3, D2) and beat Wolfsberger 3-1 at home in November’s reverse fixture.
- Wolfsberger form: Wolfsberger have lost four and tied one of their last five in all competitions, conceding two or more goals in every defeat.
- Tactical note: Ognjen Zarić’s compact, flexible tactical setup has improved Altach’s league position and saw them beat Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 in a recent cup semi-final.
Wolfsberger need points
Wolfsberger Athletik Club’s mini-table position demands that they play to win at home to SC Rheindorf Altach on Saturday, but the recent form book and the hosts’ defensive frailty suggest the away side have the edge to take at least one point from this contest.
Ismail Atalan’s side are struggling after four defeats and a tie in their last five games, and have let in two or more goals in each of their defeats. Atalan’s pragmatic, organization-based approach hasn’t yet been good enough for them to climb the relegation round mini-table, where Altach are top with 17 points and WAC are fourth with 13.
Key players:
- Alessandro Schöpf is their main creative source in the middle of the field, but his fitness has been an issue in recent weeks, so Markus Pink, who has the best finishing skills at the club, has stepped up and bagged six league goals himself.
- Youngster Dejan Zukić has six goals and the club-leading assist tally, so he will be their spark and sparkle, but Altach are likely to be wise to that.
Altach have a compact, flexible system
This game of pressing versus counter-attacking is a chess match which WAC have failed to master in recent outings, so we’ll take Altach to not lose given they are unbeaten in five games after beating Red Bull Salzburg 1-0 in the away leg of their ÖFB Cup semi-final.
Ognjen Zarić has overseen a marked improvement in Altach’s performances since taking charge in January 2026, with Patrick Greil scoring seven league goals, including some key set-piece efforts and penalties. Young Ousmane Diawara has five league goals and offers an outlet for Altach to counterattack in numbers when they win the ball back.
This should be a cagey encounter as both clubs are used to battling it out at the lower end of the table, with several draws and away wins for each club featuring in their head-to-head record in 2025/26. Sandro Ingolitsch and Benedikt Zech are solid at the back and Anteo Fetahu can be a catalyst from deep on his day.
Take the draw or Altach for the double chance
At 2.9, Altach are worth a shot in the double chance market on Saturday, but the oddsmakers seem to be on our wavelength as Wolfsberger are 2.45 favourites for the win while the tie is at 3.1.
The under 2.5 goals market, priced at 1.7, is also worth a play as we are expecting another tight and tense encounter in the Austrian Bundesliga relegation round.
