Stephen Warnock has been around the English football scene for over 20 years. Born in Ormskirk, Lancashire, his journey started in the Liverpool youth system, followed by him graduation to the senior team in 2002. This marked the beginning of a 16-year career that culminated in his role as a defender for multiple top-flight teams.
Warnock’s playing days as a pro started with a couple of loan spells at Bradford City and Coventry City, and he was even named the Player of the Year for the latter. He started appearing in the Liverpool main squad, starting with the legendary 2004/2005 season and shared the left-back position with John Arne Riise.
Following his 2006 exit from the Reds, Stephen moved to Blackburn Rovers, for whom he played over the course of the next 3 and a half seasons. His apex year was in 2008/2009, when he marked 37 appearances and even won the club’s Player of the Year distinction.
One of his most fruitful spells was when he moved to Birmingham and started playing for Aston Villa. Following an impressive season, he eventually moved to Bolton Wanders on Loan, followed by a set of spells in the Championship and League One for clubs like Leeds, Burton, and Bradford. He retired from professional football following the 2017/2018 season.
Despite the extremely competitive pool of selection, Stephen Warnock even managed to crack the England first-team squad for 2 caps, giving him a taste of playing for the Three Lions.
