RSL’s solid shape up against Orlando’s fluid style
Real Salt Lake's solid 3-4-2-1/3-5-2 structure will be tested by Orlando City's more fluid, attack-first approach when the two MLS outfits meet on Saturday. RSL arrive at Inter&Co Stadium, having gone 2-1-2 in their last five matches and arriving on the back of a 2-game winning streak.
RSL are 10th in MLS 2026 with 27 points after 17 games, significantly better on paper than Orlando, who are 22nd in the table with 21 points from 19 games. Pablo Mastroeni has given the Claret-and-Cobalt a structure to control the ball and use their wingbacks to create width, while Martin Perelman has made the Lions a more fluid and youthful team since taking over.
Sergi Solans has been a big positive for RSL, scoring seven MLS 2026 goals in 17 games, but he has five of his total in the last five matches. Orlando have their own hot striker in Tyrese Spicer, who has three goals in City's last five matches.
Head-to-head and home advantage are in RSL’s favour
The head-to-head is in favour of Real Salt Lake here, but the odds are on the hosts at 36/25. With RSL at 17/10, the value looks much better on the visitors, but we're getting behind both teams to score as our main wager because Orlando have plenty of firepower at home and RSL have scored seven in their last two games.
Real Salt Lake's last two outings have both been clean-sheet wins at home, a 4-0 thumping of Mexico's CF Atlante and a 3-0 success against FC Juarez of Mexico in the Leagues Cup. Orlando have hit a bit of a rut, drawing 1-1 at home to FC Cincinnati, after a 2-2 draw against Atletico de San Luis and a 5-3 shootout win in the same competition.
Mastroeni’s men should be able to keep it tight
So, Orlando's recent run of 2-1-2 is not a full-blown revival just yet, but there are signs of life and they have a decent chance of winning this game. However, RSL's structure and control of the game should be enough to keep it close, so we will take Orlando to just edge it or the draw in the double chance market.
Orlando have gone 4-2-3 at home in MLS 2026, scoring 16, so they have the firepower to punish RSL if they can get behind the defence. But Mastroeni's side are conceding 1.89 goals per game on their travels, which is a concern and suggests they are not always getting the structure right.
Orlando's higher tempo and ability to transition from defence to attack quickly, as well as their periodic pressing, should disrupt RSL's shape and that will be an advantage for the Lions. The visitors will look to slow the game down and kill counters, so we're expecting a tight, but lively contest at Inter&Co Stadium on Saturday.
