Rapids can make it a grind
Los Angeles FC are in superior form than their hosts going into this Thursday's MLS 2026 match at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, but Colorado Rapids could make this a tight affair, particularly if they can generate early chaos to the visitors. LAFC are placed fourth in the table with 34 points after 19 games while Colorado Rapids are 20th of 26 with 22 points from 18 matches.
Los Angeles FC have won four and drawn one of their five recent games and come into the matchup on a three-game winning streak, which includes a 1-0 away win over Deportivo Toluca and a 2-1 home win against Queretaro in the CONCACAF Leagues Cup 2026/2027.
Marc Dos Santos has kept the LAFC blueprint, which is possession-based with plenty of midfield control and overloading of the half-spaces, sharp since taking the helm on 5 December 2025. Denis Bouanga is the danger man with 10 goals in 18 MLS 2026 appearances and he has been directly involved in four of LAFC's last eight goals.
Colorado can counter with plenty of pace
Colorado have been mixed but broadly positive under Matt Wells since 23 December 2025, winning three and losing two of their last five in all competitions. He has created a flexible system that can operate as either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 in which Colorado can counter-press and hit teams on the counter-attack with pace.
They have won five, drawn none and lost three of their eight home MLS 2026 fixtures, scoring 17 goals in the process. So, the altitude and firepower should make this a tough out for LAFC, who have gone 3-3-3 on the road and conceded only ten in nine.
Rafael Navarro is Colorado's star man with seven goals in 18 appearances and he has been involved in two of the Rapids' last five goals.
Tight match expected
This is a classic clash of styles between Colorado's high-energy, aggressive counter-pressing and LAFC's controlled possession play. If the Rapids get the ball early and turn it into chaos, they can rattle LAFC, but if the visitors can settle into possession they should come out on top in terms of territory and chances.
The head-to-head odds are narrow with LAFC 7/5 favourites ahead of Colorado Rapids 81/50 and the draw 53/20. We will take the draw as our primary wager, but there is merit in taking the shorter odds for both teams to score at 1/2 and siding with Los Angeles to nick it. The last meeting in MLS 2026 was a 0-0 draw at LAFC's home, but we're expecting both attacks to get chances in this contest.
