Timbers will make it tough for MLS leaders
Los Angeles FC are the clear favourites at 49/100 for Sunday's MLS clash against Portland Timbers at the BMO Stadium, with the draw at 389/100 and the visitors at 551/100 coming in far behind.
It's difficult to argue against the Black & Gold as favourites based on all the stats, but the oddsmakers don't seem to have factored in the fact that this could be a clash of styles. Marc Dos Santos' LAFC team play their football in a front-foot, possession heavy style with quick vertical combinations and an aggressive counter-press.
Portland, by contrast, are more shape-fluid and pragmatic under Marti Cifuentes - they'll happily sit compact and patiently build from the back before trying to pick their moments. This is a chess match.
Dos Santos’ side have plenty of goals in them
Portland arrive in good form for this contest with four wins and one defeat from their last five, beating Puebla 5-2 at home, a 3-1 away loss to Club America, and Club Tijuana 3-1 at Providence Park. The Timbers' away record is patchy, however, with only two wins, one draw and six defeats, conceding an average of 2.00 goals on the road. LAFC are also coming into the game in strong form with three wins, one draw and one loss in their last five matches, but they were held 1-1 by Gallos Blancos Queretaro before today's 1-0 home defeat to San Diego FC. Denis Bouanga is the major threat for the home side in MLS 2026 with 10 goals in 19 appearances, two of which have come in the last five games. Kevin Kelsy has been a sharp finisher for the visitors with nine in 17, but LAFC should have enough to edge this game at home.
LAFC can keep it simple and still win
A LAFC win with under 3.5 goals looks like a smart alternative market if the favorite controls the tempo. Portland pack enough punch to keep this from turning into a home walkover, however, and a low-scoring win for the hosts looks like a solid selection to the match result market.
