An intriguing matchup at TQL Stadium
FC Cincinnati (3-0-2) come into their MLS matchup against New York City FC (3-1-1) off a slightly patchy run of results, but one which contains enough quality to suggest they will trouble the visitors.
Pat Noonan has done a solid job since taking charge in December 2021, fashioning a pragmatic three-at-the-back system that keeps Cincinnati compact, direct and dangerous in transition. They play either a 3-4-1-2 or 3-5-2, and if they can keep it compact in the middle and get runners in behind, they will hurt NYCFC in this matchup.
Pascal Jansen, who took over in January 2025, has instilled a fluid, possession-based approach on NYCFC, where they overload the centre of the pitch and press hard to win the ball back when they don't have it. A 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 formation is favoured and it should be a fascinating chess match on Wednesday.
FC Cincinnati have home advantage
The odds for this matchup are very close with Cincinnati at 28/25 and NYCFC at 19/10, and the draw at 59/20, so it is anyone's game. However, home advantage should swing this one towards the hosts and a narrow FCC win would be our main selection.
FC Cincinnati have won three and lost one of their last four matches at home, and NYCFC have won one and lost one of their last two away, so the home edge is just enough to tip this one in Cincinnati's favour, albeit by a tight scoreline.
NYCFC will be confident, however, as Cincinnati have failed to win either of their previous two home head-to-heads and the visitors will have the edge in terms of rhythm, arriving off a 2-0 home win over Santos Laguna Mexico and a 2-1 away loss to Cruz Azul in the CONCACAF Leagues Cup 2026/2027.
NYCFC are the in-form team
New York City FC have gone 3-1-1 in their last five, a run of form that suggests that they will not be easy to beat in this MLS clash. NYCFC can certainly get on the scoresheet.
FC Cincinnati have averaged 3.11 goals-per-game at TQL Stadium, however, so Over 2.5 goals at 11/25 and Both Teams To Score at 2/5 will be the main selections here.
Stripling to strike again
Evander Ferreira has 11 goals in 17 appearances in MLS 2026 for FC Cincinnati, giving them a prolific finisher in the most important area of the field.
Nicolas Fernandez has 13 goals in 18 MLS 2026 appearances for NYCFC and has scored three of his side's last nine goals in the last five games, so we're going for a 2-1 correct score in favour of Cincinnati.
