Austin up against it against Seattle
Austin FC will have enjoyed their summer of Leagues Cup action as they come into their MLS 2026 opener on Thursday having won their previous two matches.
The Green and Gold took out Club Tijuana 2-0 in their opener before beating Mexican side Puebla 3-0 at home, but they will face a sterner test against Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.
The Sounders are rightful favourites for this clash at 63/100 with Austin coming in at 39/10 and the draw at 59/20, but we feel this has the potential to be a lot closer than that.
Seattle's Leagues Cup run included a 3-0 home win over Gallos Blancos Queretaro that was followed by a 2-1 home loss to CD Chivas de Guadalajara, so the home turf has not been much of a fortress recently.
Seattle not so solid at home
They have won two and lost three of their last five at Lumen Field and Brian Schmetzer's men are in mixed form in general, winning just two of their last ten in all competitions.
The Sounders are still coming off a couple of recent results where they have been able to break through at the other end with eight goals in their last five at Lumen, so should have enough firepower to win this even if they are behind.
Austin are in better shape than the hosts with four wins, one draw and five defeats in their last 10, and three wins in their last five, so the visitors will not arrive empty-handed.
Austin are on a scoring roll
In Davy Arnaud's system, the Green and Gold tend to have the ball more than Seattle, but they are shape-flexible. This is still a transition-based team that can get wobbly when the tempo is very high and the pressure is applied.
Seattle are a team that tries to win the ball back in the opponents' half with aggression and try to get numbers behind the break, so it is hard to see how Austin do not get in behind.
