- League position: Alloa Athletic are two points better off than Queen of the South and sit 3rd in League One 2025-2026.
- Home form: Alloa Athletic have lost just three home games in League One 2025-2026 (W8, D6, L3).
A classic League One fixture at the perfect time in the season
Match context
With both teams pushing for the play-offs and local bragging rights on the line, Saturday’s matchup between Alloa Athletic and Queen of the South is a classic League One affair that comes at just the right time in the 2025-2026 campaign.
Alloa form and management
Alloa Athletic have struggled to find consistency of late, claiming just two wins from their last five league matches (L3), and they’ve split their last two home games (W1, L1), but Andy Graham’s side have a strong record at the Indodrill Stadium this season and should fancy their chances of beating their opponents.
Graham took over as player-manager since November 2023 and has built his Alloa Athletic side on a possession-based platform, with the team showing tactical flexibility in terms of their pressing approach and ability to play patient, structured soccer at the other end of the field.
Goals at a premium at the Indodrill
Queen of the South are a much less structured side, but Peter Murphy has certainly improved their organisation since taking the reins in May 2024, with his team compact and dangerous on the break.
The Doonhamers will look to get their numerical advantage into play, and their ability to win transitions on the counter makes them dangerous.
But Murphy’s side concede 1.41 goals per away game, having conceded 24 times on their travels this term, and they head to Indodrill on the back of two successive draws in League One 2025-2026. Queen of the South have drawn their last three away games (W5, D6, L6).
Alloa score 1.59 goals per home game in the league this season and concede just 0.76, so this one could be tight with both managers opting for a cautious approach. However, Alloa are the stronger home side with 8 wins, 6 draws, and just 3 losses in the league this campaign, and they haven’t managed a home win against Queen of the South in their last two meetings.
Back the home side
Alloa have the tactical nous to control the tempo of Saturday’s game and they have the home advantage this time around, so I’m backing the hosts to take all three points at a very fair price.
Both teams should get on the scoresheet but I’m going for a home win with under 2.5 goals. Alloa have the discipline and tactical nous to keep this one tight, so don’t be surprised if this match is won by a single goal.
Alloa to win 2.31, Under 2.5 goals 2.11, Both Sides to Score - Yes 1.53.
- Luke Donnelly has been in good form of late for Alloa, scoring two of his side’s last four goals, while Callum Burnside leads the line with 9 in 25 in the league.
- Reece Lyon is QOS’s top scorer with nine in 35, so he will be the danger man for the visitors.
