- Team form: Charlton Athletic have won eight, drawn four and lost nine home Championship matches this season
- Away form: Hull City have a strong away record in the Championship with ten wins, four draws and seven losses
- Home defense: Charlton Athletic have conceded 23 goals in 21 home games
Tigers may come out on top in The Valley
Hull City should be the best team on the field when they travel to south London to face Charlton Athletic in Saturday’s Championship fixture and have enough quality to snag all three points. The Tigers sit sixth in the table with 69 points from 43 games, ensuring they will be in the playoff hunt in 2025-2026.
And they look well-placed to take advantage of some recent wobbles by the Addicks, who have not won in their last five (D2, L3). Charlton have gone backwards in the second half of the campaign and now sit 19th in the Championship with 50 points from 43 matches. Nathan Jones’ high-intensity style of play suits some of the talent in the squad but he needs to get this team to perform more consistently.
Addicks are high-risk, Hull more balanced
Tactical contrast:
Jones, who took over in February 2024, has got his team pressing teams all over the pitch to create turnovers and exploit defenses quickly. It’s a risky approach, and one Hull City are less likely to adopt given boss Sergej Jakirovic’s structured and disciplined style since coming in at the start of June 2025.
Hull, who drew 1-1 in the previous meeting at Hull City's ground this season, will look to keep it tight, get the ball wide and use Joe Gelhardt to do his thing in behind.
Key players:
- Joe Gelhardt is Hull’s primary scoring threat with 14 goals in 36 Championship appearances.
- Charlton have no player to rival him in terms of forward thrust, although Sonny Carey has been a good target with eight goals in 43.
Hull are in good shape
Hull will win this game if they keep things tight at the back and get forward in numbers when they have the ball. Charlton have lost three straight home games and may find it hard to match Hull’s creativity in the final third.
Back the Tigers to earn an away win at odds of 2.81 with the expectation that Matt Godden, who has been a bright spot in a tough few games, can grab a goal for Charlton. The Addicks’ last four goals have seen two of them go to Godden’s account.
