- Odds: Aston Villa are favored for this game at 2.18, but Coventry are a fair 3.05 and the tie has plenty of value at 3.55.
- Form: Coventry City have won six of their last ten games in all competitions, an acceptable base for a cup upset.
A close cup game is anticipated
Coventry City
Coventry City come into this game with back-to-back defeats which is somewhat deceptive as a 0-1 home defeat to a good Hull City side and 0-1 narrow away at Manchester City, tells us that Coventry were perhaps closer than the final scores suggest. The Sky Blues are a high-tempo, vertical team who have impressed under Frank Lampard since he took over on 28 November 2024. They line-up most often in a 4-2-3-1 system which can also operate as a back three, they employ their width well, deliver the ball into the box and have a good central press to try and hunt for turnovers in the opposition's half.
Aston Villa
Villa are more flexible in formation as they can play a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 system, they play with a high line and are more compact centrally. They are very much a possession-based side who play in the half-spaces and look to counterattack, but only when they've picked the right moment.
Aston Villa are more likely to have the quality to edge it
This should be an intriguing game between two clear styles of play, Coventry will come at Villa and Villa will try to control the game. Villa have only won two of their last ten matches in all competitions so the hosts have every right to try to topple the Premier League side, but Unai Emery's men have an extra pedigree and if they can manage Coventry's intensity then they are more likely to edge this one.
- Over 2.5 goals at 1.65 looks the safest pick in the total goals markets.
- Both teams to score at 1.53 is probably the better wager.
