- Home form: Zenit are unbeaten at home in the Premier League this season (W12, D2 from 14 matches)
- Away form: Sochi have won two of their last three away matches in the Premier League
- Head-to-head: Zenit have won the last three meetings of these clubs, including a 3-0 away win in the Premier League six months ago.
Zenit are the cream of the Russian crop
The Premier League in 2025-2026 has Zenit St. Petersburg sitting second with 62 points from 28 games played, while Sochi are rock-bottom with 21 from the same number of matches. Sergey Semak’s side are a well-drilled and consistent unit that plays a fluid 4-3-3 possession-based system with lots of creativity and movement in the attacking third. The full-backs are pushed up to create overloads in the half-spaces and the three midfielders have licence to float around and create chances for the front three.
- Zenit have enough attacking quality to cause any defense problems in the Premier League with the likes of Malcom, Claudinho and Aleksandr Sobolev providing the quality and numbers up front.
- Brazilian playmaker Malcom makes the difference with his ability to drift into dangerous positions and his vision and passing ability to put his teammates through one-on-one situations.
- Anton Zinkovskiy is Sochi's top scorer with three goals from 26 Premier League matches.
Sochi will be compact and pragmatic
Igor Osinkin has done a decent job at Sochi since taking over in September 2025, but their improvement in recent results has been built on a more pragmatic and reactive system than what Zenit have played for the past five years. Osinkin has deployed a five-defender system and got Timofey Margasov to control the backline and provide a platform for his players to play off.
Kirill Kravtsov has been a recent bright spot for Sochi, scoring three of their last seven goals in the past five matches. Anton Zinkovskiy leads the way for Sochi in the Premier League this term with three goals from 26 matches, which shows they are not a particularly prolific side.
Home side should have the edge
The bookmakers are offering very short odds for a home win on Sunday, which looks about right considering the gulf in class between the two sides. Zenit have won three and drawn two of their last five in the Premier League and have not lost at home this season, winning 12 and drawing two of their 14 home matches.
Sochi have won four and lost only once in their last five and are more resilient on their travels than many give them credit for. But they have failed to win on their two previous trips to St Petersburg in the Premier League.
Our belief is that Zenit will dominate possession and create enough chances to win the match against a team that will sit deep and try to disrupt their rhythm. A high-scoring affair looks likely, but we believe Sochi are unlikely to trouble the home side’s back line, so the both teams to score no bet should be considered.
Zenit score an average of 2.07 goals per game and concede 0.50 on average at Gazprom Arena in the Premier League, while Sochi score 0.93 and concede 2.14 on the road in the Russian top-flight.
