- Germany form: Germany have won their last five games in a row.
- Ivorian form: Ivory Coast have won four of their last five and have won three of their last four games away from home.
- Recent upset: The Elephants beat France 2-1 away from home just 12 days ago.
Group E giants clash at Toronto Stadium
Germany and Ivory Coast lead Group E with three points apiece after each won their opening games in the FIFA World Cup 2026, and Saturday's crucial showdown at Toronto Stadium promises to entertain.
The Germans are in a position to top the group on goal difference with Ivory Coast by virtue of their 7-1 opening match win over Curacao.
Julian Nagelsmann's side are in good form, winning five consecutive games in all competitions. They beat Finland 4-0 in their warm-up and then travelled to the US to secure a 2-1 victory in their World Cup game.
The Eagles are free-scoring with 13 goals in their last three matches and could run riot against Ivory Coast if they hit their stride in what should be a high-scoring affair.
Germany could run rampant
Tactical approach
Nagelsmann, who has brought a new tactical flexibility and a more aggressive pressing strategy to the German side since taking over in September 2023, can get his side pressing and then opening up the game with high-tempo attacking play.
Players to watch
Kai Havertz is the danger man for Germany as he proved with two goals against Curacao, but the rest of the squad offers plenty of attacking quality, with Jamal Musiala adding creative spark.
Opposition threat
However, Emerse Faé's side could be a hard nut to crack on Saturday.
Elephants can be very stingy
Faé has done a fine job in instilling a compact and disciplined structure in the Elephants since taking over in January 2024, while he has ensured they are an explosive force on the break and wide areas.
The Ivory Coast have a solid away record, while Germany, despite their superior quality, should not be underrated by bettors.
- Frank Kessié is the engine of the team, powering the ball forward in a box-to-box role and making runs into the box in the later stages of games.
- Wilfried Singo is probably the best player on the field whenever he plays on the wing for Ivory Coast, with his pace and a superb assist for their opener in the World Cup against Ecuador last time out.
- They beat Ecuador 1-0 in a gritty display, but the real measure of their form came when they edged France 2-1 12 days ago.
Germany to edge the action
Backing Germany to win at 1.53 could be the way to go here, but the odds on the Over 2.5 goals market are just as attractive and the Both Teams to Score – Yes bet looks like it should land given Germany's scoring prowess and Ivory Coast's clinical finish against Ecuador.
Germany will push the pace and enjoy most of the ball possession, but Ivory Coast should enjoy a few chances on the counter-attack and could get a goal when Germany push up.
