A tale of two contrasting teams
League positions and context
Greenock Morton and Queen’s Park are closely matched in the Championship table with the hosts sitting in 8th with 36 points from 33 games, while the visitors occupy seventh spot with 39 points from 32 matches. Both sides have been very inconsistent this season but have shown some signs of life in recent weeks, so there is much to play for when they meet on Saturday in terms of momentum and the table.
Greenock Morton
Ian Murray, who has been in charge at Greenock since January 2026, has made Morton much more defensively solid and pragmatic in nature. The Ton press selectively and sit compact, with a double-pivot in midfield, before transitioning quickly and playing vertical soccer on the counter attack.
Eamonn Brophy has been the main out and out goal scorer for the Ton, finding the net six times in 21 Championship appearances, but they haven’t been prolific in front of goal overall.
Queen’s Park
Sean Crighton has moulded Queen’s Park into a very different beast since taking over in May 2025. They press high up the field and have a more structured, possession-based system when they are in transition, although they do like to play on the front foot.
The Spiders’ top scorer in the Championship this term is Aidan Connolly, who has scored four goals in 31 appearances. He’s a pacey, technically gifted player that can unlock defences with his creativity.

Match expectation
I think this game is going to be a tight, close and exciting matchup between two very different teams. Queen’s Park have shown superior recent form and have failed to win in their last two trips to Greenock Morton.
They came out on top in the most recent matchup with the Ton seven weeks ago, edging out a 3-2 victory in Glasgow.
Recent form
Queen’s Park are likely to find the net on Saturday, but Morton could get the better of the Spiders.
- Morton are in the midst of a two-game losing run, with a 3-1 defeat away at Dunfermline Athletic followed up by a 3-2 loss at Raith Rovers.
- Queen’s Park are on a two-game unbeaten run with a 1-1 draw at St. Johnstone followed by a 1-0 home win over Ross County.
Prediction
A 1-1 correct score could be the way to go here, but I’ll go for a Queen’s Park or Draw Double Chance and the odds for the draw alone look appealing at 3.25. The last three head-to-heads have seen goals at both ends and, with the addition of over 2.5 goals, that’s my main selection for Saturday’s game.
