Hibs’ home struggles and Motherwell’s away misadventures
There are only two games remaining of the Premiership - Championship Round 2026 and while the top-five is already decided, there is a lot of pride and the potential for some vital European football up for grabs. Hibernian sit in fifth with 54 points from 36 matches, four fewer than 4th-placed Motherwell.
But the Edinburgh side have won just one of their last three at home, losing the other two. In the away team’s last two visits to Hibs, Motherwell have failed to win and Easter Road remains a tough place to go.
But Motherwell are the narrow favorites to win on Saturday at 2.5, with Hibs coming in at 2.55 and the draw at 3.45. Motherwell have won just five and lost six of their 18 matches on the road, while Hibs are generally better at home than they are away.

Jens Berthel Askou leads Motherwell with a compact, possession-based style of football. His team’s 3-2 win at Rangers a fortnight ago was one of the shocks of the season, but they have since lost at Falkirk and drawn with Hearts. Hibs, meanwhile, have won two and lost three of their last five and bounced back from a 1-2 home defeat to Celtic with a convincing 3-1 away win at Falkirk just two days ago.
- Hibs use a front three and a back three, but their wing-backs provide width and their inside forwards allow for a free-flowing style of play.
- Motherwell, on the other hand, have a more asymmetric 4-2-2-2 that focuses on compact possession, short passing and high-risk counter-pressing, which can backfire if the pressing triggers are not timed right.
- Hibs’ direct transitions should be a problem for Well and we’re expecting the home team’s counter-pressing to also suit them in this match-up, which should lead to an end-to-end game with chances at both ends.

The head-to-head has been tight recently with Motherwell winning one and two draws in the last three meetings, so this should be another close game. David Gray’s Hibs play a more direct brand of soccer, but are just as fluid and flexible as Motherwell, albeit in a very different way.
