- Head-to-head: León have won three of the last five meetings between the two clubs in Liga MX, but Juárez were 2-0 victors in their last encounter in September 2025.
- Standings (León): León sit 9th in Liga MX with 19 points after 14 games (W6, D1, L7) and have a chance of making the playoff (Liguilla) with three games remaining.
- Standings (Juárez): Juárez are 11th with 16 points (W4, D4, L6) and need a result at León to stay in the Liguilla running.
Both teams to score at 1.53 - odds at the time of writing
Tactical approaches
There is a real contrast in approach between Leon, who play a more possession-based 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and Juárez, who have a compact, pragmatic, counter-attacking 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 style.
León are going into this game with two straight wins and are looking for a third consecutive league win on Sunday.
Leon’s coach Javier Gandolfi has had an immediate effect since being hired in March 2026 to bring some defensive stability to the side.
Defence vs counter-attack
But Juarez, coached by experienced tactician Pedro Caixinha, play a more pragmatic style and are just as well organised.
Caixinha will have his team well drilled and set up to be solid at the back and dangerous on the counter with their two very quick forwards.
So, a battle is brewing between Leon’s attacking flair and Juarez’s defensive determination with the wide areas likely to be a key battlefield.
Both sets of full backs will be exposed if Leon can maintain possession and break through the middle, but Juarez are equally likely to make the most of any high balls into the Leon penalty area.
Recent form
In the last two games, Leon have beaten Puebla and Atlas, but prior to that suffered heavy defeats to Guadalajara and Tijuana.
And Juarez have also been in good shape recently with only one defeat in their last five, although their three draws and a win is not enough to get them into the Liguilla.
Juarez are not going to beat teams like Leon if they can’t convert draws into wins and that could be the case again on Sunday in what is effectively a six-pointer between two teams desperate not to be playing off in a play-in for a Liguilla spot when the Clausura closes.
It’s a tough one to call and I’m going with the Both teams to score - Yes market at 1.53 as the smartest bet of the day in the Clausura, although it’s a good price.
The weather should be mild and dry for the game in Leon with no distractions from the pitch, so it should come down to whichever team can win the tactical battle.
With both clubs still in with a chance of reaching the Liguilla and the bookmakers split on the winner, a tie or close win for either team is most likely.
León have more quality and will have the better of the game if they can win the ball in the wide channels and create the sort of fast breaks that are their specialty.
- Diber Cambindo leads the Leon scoring charts with six goals in the Clausura and is the key player if the hosts are to win this match.
- Javier Gandolfi’s men have won two straight games and, with good quality and depth in their squad, should have enough to overcome Juarez if everything goes well.
- Juárez have enough quality to keep the visitors in the match with the pace of their two forwards and some midfield craft in the form of Guilherme Castilho and D. García.
- Both have contributed multiple goals and assists from advanced positions and can link up with Óscar Estupiñán, who has five goals this campaign and is always good for one in tight games.
- Estupiñán remains the main threat for Juarez and they will need him to get them out of danger in the second half if it looks like they could be heading for another draw against Leon.
