Sounders in a rut
Philadelphia Union are favourites to take the win on Saturday, but Seattle Sounders will certainly give it a good go, so we're not expecting a dull matchup at Subaru Park. Ryan Richter has overseen some improvement in the Eastern Conference club since taking charge on 27 May 2026, but his press-and-transition style has really come to the fore in recent weeks.
The two sides have been on very different arcs during their last five games, with Union grinding through the bad results (D2, L3) and Seattle losing their way (W1, D1, L3).
Philly will be tested

The last three results for the Union are a perfect example of the chaos their games have become. They were beaten 4-3 away to Orlando City, drew 1-1 at home to Columbus Crew and were then smashed 6-4 by Inter Miami CF.
The Sounders' last two results have been even more painful: a 1-0 defeat away to LAFC followed by a 0-5 thrashing at home to the Portland Timbers.
Tactical outlook:
Philadelphia will have a go at Seattle on Saturday and their high press should ensure that they do not get caught sitting back. The Union's rapid transitions should look to punish the Sounders, who like to keep the ball and play patiently in possession.
But, if the visitors can keep the ball and drag Philadelphia into a more calm rhythm, they can test the hosts' ability to play at the other end of the field.
Taking the value in the Union
The hosts seem overpriced at 2.22 when compared to the visitors (2.9) and the draw (3.65). Our belief in the Union to edge this clash is based on the fact that the draw is only the third option for a reason and, at 3.65, it is the only selection that gives us value.
- Both teams to score (BTTS) at 1.55 and over 2.5 goals at 1.65 also look tempting, but this game is more likely to be a close win for Philadelphia or a tough draw than a shutout of either side.
