- League position: RB Leipzig are fourth in the Bundesliga table on 50 points after 27 games, well placed to secure European qualification for another season
- Form: Werder Bremen are fourth-bottom of the table with 28 points from 27 games after a run of three wins and two defeats in their last five Bundesliga matches.
- Previous meeting: Leipzig won 2-0 at home to Werder Bremen in their most recent Bundesliga meeting four months ago.
Leipzig are living dangerously in the fast lane
Attacking approach
RB Leipzig are one of the Bundesliga’s most attacking sides under Ole Werner, who took charge of the Red Bulls in July 2025 and has set his team up with an ultra-positive 4-3-3 system. The underlying principles of Leipzig’s approach are to press relentlessly and pass vertically all the time, so as to overwhelm opponents and score goals.
Recent form
They have produced plenty of entertaining, high-scoring games in 2025-26 and last week’s 5-0 home win over Hoffenheim was another example of Leipzig’s offensive qualities in full bloom. That result put them back on track after a disappointing 1-0 away defeat to Stuttgart and has kept them in the hunt for European qualification this season.
Away form
However, Leipzig’s away record this season has been a mixed bag of 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats in 13 Bundesliga games, conceding 17 goals at a rate of 1.31 per game. The statistics look much better than the reality because they have one win and one loss in their last two away matches and, even though they are a strong side, they remain vulnerable to the odd setback.
Werner’s Werder are keeping heads above water
Manager and philosophy
A similar story applies to Werder Bremen, who sit 14th in the Bundesliga under Daniel Thioune, who took over in February 2026. Thioune’s pragmatic philosophy and knack of keeping his team afloat in the survival battle appears to be a good fit with this squad and he has been getting a few more wins on the board recently.
Recent results and home record
Bremen have won three and lost two of their last five Bundesliga games with a 4-1 away win at Union Berlin followed by a 0-2 defeat at home to Mainz 05 and a 1-0 away victory at Wolfsburg. They have split their previous two home games (one win and one loss) and their record at Weserstadion this term reads four wins, four draws and five defeats from 13 games with 23 goals conceded.
- Leipzig’s Christoph Baumgartner will be the main man to watch on Saturday as he has 12 Bundesliga goals in 26 games this term, but Jens Stage has been in blistering form recently and leads Bremen’s scoring charts with seven goals in 24 appearances.
- Stage is the spark plug for any counter-attacking moves that this compact five can produce and it will be interesting to see how Thioune’s tactical style matches up with Werner’s.
Leipzig likely to emerge from a scrappy game
There’s little doubt that this is a clash of styles, Leipzig being all attacking and positive while Bremen are set up to be tight, take few risks and try to counter-attack when gaps appear in front of them.
We’ll be looking for a high-scoring match with Over 2.5 goals priced at 1.5 and Both teams to score at 1.45, but we’ll side with Leipzig, who can be backed at 1.97 to take three points in Bremen.
