- Tactics: Algeria will look to use a mid-block with selective pressing and quick wide transitions, but Switzerland can use wide overloads and control the pace.
- Recent form: Switzerland are unbeaten in five matches (Won 3, Drawn 2) but have won their last two games.
Switzerland can lock in a tight affair
Switzerland's results from their Group B 2026 matches were a 1-1 draw with Qatar, a 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina and a 2-1 success over Canada.
Algeria's results from Group J 2026 were a 1-2 win against Jordan and a 3-3 draw with Austria.
But Murat Yakin has done a good job with Switzerland since taking over on 9 August 2021 and he has a real plan for this team.
Algeria can be a handful on the counter
Algeria's new boss, Vladimir Petković, has had less time to build his team since being appointed on 29 February 2024, but he brings knowledge of this Swiss structure.
But Switzerland, who have won four, drawn five and lost one of their last 10 games in all competitions, are built to control games with their compact 4-3-3 and ability to tighten up when necessary.
- The Desert Foxes are a dangerous team with Amine Gouiri their in-form player after scoring three of their ten goals in the last five.
- They will come at the Swiss on their flanks with either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, looking to pinch the ball and score on the break.
Narrow game could tilt towards Switzerland
Wide play and defence
They can overload wide areas and create some good crosses from full-backs, especially when their full-backs start whipping in crosses, but it is hard to see them blowing open Algeria's defence in this game.
Odds and expectation
The market makes Switzerland the 1.73 favorites, which looks about right, but the 3.5 Draw and 4.4 Algeria are probably too big as well.
A victory is the most likely outcome, but Algeria are very capable of getting a goal on the attack and it looks like this game could be won with a narrow margin at BC Place Vancouver.
