Greater Buenos Aires bragging rights and league momentum at stake
Match context
Sunday’s encounter between Temperley and Quilmes Atletico Club promises to be a close and low-scoring game as two Greater Buenos Aires clubs look to build momentum in Primera Nacional 2026.
Temperley currently have the upper hand in terms of league position (8th vs 13th) and have the better recent head-to-head record between the two (W1, D0, L1). The visitors last lost at this ground in Primera Nacional 2024 when Temperley ran out 1-0 winners, however, this season’s hosts have looked more solid and cohesive so far under new boss, Nicolás Domingo.
Temperley tactics
The ex-Boca No6 took charge at the end of 2025 and has got his players to play a compact, but explosive, 4-5-1 system with maximum density in the central midfield areas. Temperley have been difficult to break down at home this term, whilst once ahead, they have a solid record of keeping the tempo and pace of the game to a minimum.
Temperley should edge out the visitors
Their results and performances in the Primera Nacional 2026 have been positive, but with just three goals scored in their two home outings, it’s fair to say that Temperley have not been overly prolific in front of goal. However, the hosts do have a physical target man in the form of Adrian Arregui, who has one goal in five appearances for the club this term, while there’s a real bite to the squad both in the midfield and in the frontline.
In comparison, Quilmes Atletico Club have been inconsistent in Primera Nacional 2026, but their form is on the rise under the tutelage of Leandro Gracián, who took charge in March. He has taken the club from a disjointed and rather negative approach to something more structured and possession-based, although the new identity is still a work in progress.
- Quilmes come into this encounter on the back of a two-game winning streak and will be high on confidence after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over San Telmo in their most recent away game.
- That was followed by a solid 2-1 home win over Deportivo Maipu last time out, results which put a bit of shine on a 10-point return from seven matches.
Quilmes are on the up
The team with the most at stake is Quilmes as they try to close the gap to 8th-placed Temperley and Gracián’s adjustments are starting to bear fruit. The squad have a new, determined mentality and are increasingly trying to control the ball and dictate the play, although they will be up against a tough opponent on Sunday.
The hosts have a positive record at home against Quilmes and are backed in the early odds at 2.27, but that price is a bit short for our liking. The under 2.5 goals bet is extremely short at 1.29 and BTTS - No is a little better at 1.5, which is understandable given the matchup of a conservative, transition-based block against a more possession-based, but developing, system.
We’re going for a home win, but the main selection will be a low-scoring affair with one side keeping a shutout. Temperley have been solid at home, Quilmes have struggled on the road, and the value lies with the home side to edge this one out.
