League Two strugglers face off at the Poundland
Standings and recent form
League Two’s two most out-of-form sides, Walsall FC and Harrogate Town, will square off this Saturday and each desperately needs three points. The Saddlers are 12th in the league with 65 points from 44 games so far, they’ve been solidly mid-table this term and are unlikely to climb much higher.
Meanwhile, Harrogate Town have just 36 points after the same 44 games and are rooted to the bottom of the standings in 24th. Darren Byfield took charge at Walsall FC in March 2026 and has seen his side win one, draw two and lose two of their five matches so far, while Harrogate have won two and lost three in their previous five. The Saddlers were beaten 2-1 away to Swindon Town, then they suffered a 4-0 home loss to Cheltenham Town before beating Barrow 3-1 away.
Harrogate's identity
Head coach Simon Weaver has been at the helm at Harrogate Town since 2009 and he has built a team with a clear identity. They play with a compact, well-organised shape, they’re structured when out of possession and they are disciplined enough to create opportunities through the midfield channels. Weaver has kept the team together despite their lowly League Two position this term, but he’ll need to maintain that if they are to bounce back up to League One at the first time of asking.
Kanu can be the difference
Key players
This game will be a clash of opposing philosophies, with Walsall playing a direct style in transition and Harrogate preferring to absorb pressure and hit back when they can. Byfield’s side has been tweaking tactics short-term as he stabilizes the side following managerial upheaval. I think this game will be a close game, but the hosts will have more attacking flair and should be able to edge the result at home, but I think both teams will score at some point in the match.
- Daniel Kanu is Walsall’s main attacking threat this season, with 15 goals in 38 League Two appearances.
- He’s a mobile striker who can pin defenders and link up with his teammates as well as being a clinical finisher, especially in transition.
- Jack Muldoon is Harrogate’s main man up top with 5 goals in 30 League Two appearances, he works hard and can be a threat through the middle of the field.
