- Coventry are the form favourites at 7/10 with Plymouth 7/2 and the draw 57/20.
- The Pilgrims have scored eight goals in six home games across all current competitions (average 1.33).
Tough trip for Sky Blues
Coventry City will be a tough nut for Plymouth Argyle to crack on Tuesday and The Sky Blues could be the value bet on the double chance market when they play the Pilgrims at Home Park.
Frank Lampard's men have the momentum with six wins and four draws in their last ten matches in all competitions, but they have recorded one win and three draws in their four away games (W1, D3).
Coventry have been unbeaten in four away games this season, and that shows that they can compete and survive for 90 minutes when they are on the road. Their recent results include a 0-0 draw away to Northampton Town, a 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol, and a 2-0 win over AS Monaco.
Tom Cleverley's side have a slightly worse overall record than Coventry in the last ten, winning five, drawing three and losing two, but their home form has been a mixed bag of results with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six at Home Park. However, the hosts have not been beaten by the Sky Blues on their travels in the not-too-distant past, so should be ready for the visitors' pace and directness on Tuesday.
Sky Blues are the sharpest in the cup
The clubs are level in the only two previous Championship meetings between the clubs in 2024/2025, but Plymouth won 3-1 at Home Park on New Year's Day in the most recent meeting.
This game promises to be a sharp contrast in style between Plymouth's possession-based rhythm and Coventry's pressing game. The hosts are compact and well-drilled in a 4-4-2 formation, while Lampard's side play a high, high-pressure game with lots of wide overloading and vertical attacking runs.
Coventry can disrupt Plymouth and get plenty of chances on the break if they can execute their plans, but there is a risk that they can get caught in transition when they commit players forward. The value here is definitely with Coventry, who should have enough quality and momentum to nick a win, but the home advantage and last season's head-to-head results suggest the game will be competitive.
Aribim Pepple has three goals in five games for the home side, but Ellis Simms has five of Coventry's 12 goals in their last five and has the sharpness to finish off some of the chances his team will create. The market looks right in favour of goals with Over 2.5 at 67/100 and Both Teams To Score - Yes at 13/20, but the most likely scenario here is a lively game in which Coventry have the quality and guile to nick it.
