Clarets lack bite on their travels
Bradford City have the edge in the form guide, but Burnley are a Championship club and should have more quality to bring to the EFL Cup 2026-2027 clash at The University of Bradford Stadium on Wednesday. The Clarets are 59/50 favourites, but the Bantams are close behind at 43/20, which seems too close to us as the Lancashire visitors appear to be struggling to hit their stride in their first season back at this level.
They drew 1-1 with Notts County in the EFL Cup before the international break and followed that up with a 2-2 draw against West Ham in the Championship. So Burnley go into this clash unbeaten in two, but they remain a work in progress under Nicky Hayen.
He has certainly made the team more patient and structured as a unit, with a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation being the base and more of a pressing style of play. They'll try to control the game at times, but Bradford have a high-energy, pressing game that should make this an interesting cup clash if they can get on the front foot early.
Bantams have built a good home platform
Graham Alexander has the team well organised and ready to run at opponents with their three-at-the-back system allowing for wing-back overloads and fast breaks on the counter-attack. The Valley Parade has been a good place for the hosts so far this season, with three wins, two draws and two defeats in seven games in all competitions.
So Bradford do look capable of nicking this game at home, but the odds on Burnley are about right and this is likely to be a tight, tactical battle and not a goalfest.
Under 2.5 goals at 4/5 looks the sharp angle for this one as Bradford are averaging 1.29 goals per home game this term, while Burnley have managed just 0.75 on the road. The draw at 12/5 looks live too, given Burnley's blunt away record and Bradford's momentum at home, where they have won their last two in a row.
