Arda and Lokomotiv should play out a closely-fought game
Six days after beating Arda 2-0 at home in the Bulgarian Parva Liga Conference League Group, Lokomotiv will be looking to extend their recent dominance over them when they face off in the league on Saturday. The two clubs are in the top three of the Parva Liga for 2025-26 with Lokomotiv top on 52 points from 33 games and Arda third with 45 points from the same amount of games.
The matchup between the two teams is a tricky one to call as Arda have won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five in the division while Lokomotiv have also posted mixed form with two wins, one draw and two defeats in their past five.
Tunchev’s compact system is working well for Arda
Defensive approach and coach
Arda boss Aleksandar Tunchev took over the team in June 2024 and has instilled a compact, structured and disciplined defensive system, as well as a smart use of space to play vertical, fast-paced soccer. On their own, Arda do not possess an elite player, while Lokomotiv have Joel Zwarts as a key individual, but both are cohesive units who play within their systems to make the best of the talent they have.
Team shape and scoring
Arda like to play a 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 with lots of men in the midfield areas to control spaces and then build up patiently before unleashing one of their midfielders or full backs on an attack. They have been averaging just 0.88 goals a game at home, so they are not a team that will run away with games and tend to win when they have the edge on their opponent tactically.
Lokomotiv are a tough nut to crack away from home
Lokomotiv’s coach Dusan Kosic has been with the club since December 2024 and has installed a very pragmatic and risk-averse approach which brings stability to the team.
They have a deep defensive block that invites pressure and then hit the other team on the break or from set pieces with either direct balls into the box or crosses that can be controlled in the box.
But with the odds skewed, the ‘Both teams to score - No’ market at 1.72 looks very attractive as this could be a cagey contest settled by a moment of quality or a set piece goal.
