Changing tactics at Bank of America Stadium
Form and standings
The hosts enter Saturday’s game in poor form, following four consecutive defeats and a run of one win in five in all competitions, but FC Cincinnati arrive on the back of a five-match unbeaten streak (W2, D3) that includes back-to-back victories. Charlotte sit 15th in the standings in MLS 2026 with 14 points from their opening 11 games, while FC Cincinnati are just one place and one point ahead in 14th, but there’s plenty of time to improve.
Tactical approach
Dean Smith’s Charlotte are all about structure and adaptability, possessing the tools to be a controlled, compact and hard to break down unit. Full-backs overlap and there is situational pressing, but they adapt to the situation and can be pragmatic and possession-based too.
Cincinnati can score on their travels
Pat Noonan has his team flying right now after leading them to an unbeaten five-match streak, but that is based on a back-three system with wing-backs that play very aggressive roles, coupled with the team’s ability to win the ball back and transition quickly to create high-paced, end-to-end soccer.
This should be a stylistic clash that will see plenty of 1-v-1s on the flanks and plenty of chances at both ends. I think Charlotte will come out on top and feel this could be a high-scoring game with both teams on the scoresheet.
Charlotte’s home form is better than Cincinnati’s overall, but the visitors have avoided defeat in their last three MLS away matches (W1, D2) and could avoid another defeat in this one. However, I’m going with the home team to win and BTTS in this encounter at a higher odds than Charlotte in the moneyline market, and Over 2.5 goals and BTTS are well worth a small play.
- Pep Biel is Charlotte’s top scorer with five goals in 11 MLS 2026 appearances, but Cincinnati’s Kevin Denkey has been a real revelation with six goals in 10 games.
- Evander Ferreira has five in their last five, so they can score goals.
