Hull hoping to end hoodoo over Blues
Hull City will try to end a two-game winless run against Birmingham City in front of their own fans on Saturday when the two Championship clubs face off. Hull, who are sixth in the table with 68 points from 42 games, are looking to lock down a playoff spot while the Blues are 15th with 56 points from the same number of matches.
Hull have been inconsistent with one win, two draws and two defeats in their last five matches after battling to a 1-1 draw at Oxford United, drawing 0-0 at home to Coventry City and narrowly losing 2-1 away to Sheffield United. City boss Sergej Jakirovic has got Hull playing a pragmatic, high-intensity style since taking over in June 2025, which is not always pretty but they are tough to break down at home and lethal on the counter.
He has McBurnie’s finishing to thank for many of their goals with McBurnie netting 14 times in 33 appearances in the Championship this campaign. He will also look to the energy of his wide players to get Hull pressing forward and into dangerous positions to win the ball high up the field, which should ensure an open game.
Davies’ Birmingham can be brilliant or terrible
Tactics
Birmingham City are a little better under Chris Davies, who has instilled a progressive, process-driven possession game ever since taking over in July 2024. Davies likes to dominate possession, build up patiently, overload the midfield and press to win the ball back high up the pitch, but they can be a little fragile defensively.
Form
Ducksch has the experience and nous to finish with style in the Championship, but they have lost their last two away games, so their record away from home is not great.
Birmingham are erratic, but have players like Carlos Vicente in form, who has two in his last four, to make this a thrilling game for the neutrals.
- Birmingham have won only five of their 21 Championship away games in 2025/2026, drawing three and losing 13.
- They will be looking to control the pace of this matchup, but Hull are better at breaking through on counter-attacks, so the Blues will have to find the width at some point.
- Hull are favored to take all three points here and we are siding with them to do so in an exciting match.
