- Recent form: Ipswich have won their last four consecutive matches, while Leicester have only lost three of their last ten.
- Home scoring: Ipswich have scored an average of 2.00 goals-per-game at home in all competitions this season (8 in 4).
- Away defence: Leicester have conceded an average of 1.20 goals-per-game on their travels in all competitions this term (6 in 5).
This is Gary O’Neil’s team
This is a smart tactical clash between two similarly impressive managers, Gary O'Neil (in charge of Ipswich since 23 June 2026) and Russell Martin (in charge of Leicester since 1 July 2026). O'Neil's game-plan-based approach is built around compact defensive shape and quick vertical transitions when in possession, while Martin's game-plan has more of a possession-first mentality, utilising overloads and an aggressive counter-press to recover the ball.
This game will be a true test for O'Neil's side, who have won four consecutive games, including a 3-0 home win over Rayo Vallecano and a 4-2 away win over 1. FC Union Berlin last time out. That result in Berlin was a sharp turnaround in the quality of performances and results for the Tractor Boys, who had previously won four straight matches in all competitions.
Leicester to hold their own
Recent form
Leicester City have been more inconsistent, winning two, drawing five and losing three of their ten matches in all competitions to date, but their most recent results do point towards a rise in form. The Foxes have lost 1-0 at home to Genoa, beaten Northampton Town in the EFL Cup 1-0 at home and tied 1-1 away to Notts County in League One last time out.
Odds and head-to-head
There is a big price discrepancy between the teams in this match, with the Tractor Boys 1.75 favourites ahead of Leicester at 4.2 and the draw at 3.85. Ipswich are rightly the favourites, as they have been in terrific form of late, but Leicester have taken two of the last three head-to-heads and Ipswich have failed to win either of their previous two home meetings with the Foxes (1-1 in Championship 2025/2026).
Swerve the moneyline
Given the recent form of both sides, I'm not keen on the odds-on for Ipswich or Leicester's double figure price for the win.
Ipswich have won three and lost once at Portman Road in all competitions, while Leicester have won once, drawn three times and lost once on their travels this season, so this is unlikely to be a mismatch or a blowout. However, I do think the Tractor Boys can outperform the visitors on the night.
- Instead, a sensible alternative angle is Ipswich to win and over 2.5 goals at 1.67.
- The hosts are in great form and will be looking to capitalize on that momentum while Leicester are good enough to ensure the game stays open and competitive.
