An MLS 2026 classic could be on the cards
Los Angeles Galaxy are slight favourites to defeat Colorado Rapids at the Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday and they can be backed to do so at 2.12.
That's a touch too short for our taste, however, and we're staying away from them at those odds as the visitors are 3.05 and the draw is 3.75 with the same bookmaker.
The 12th placed Rapids have more points than Los Galácticos in MLS 2026 (Rapids 36 points from 26 games, Galaxy 33 points from 27 games) and they beat Greg Vanney's side 4-1 in the head-to-head matchup six months ago. So we're siding with the away team to come through and spoil the party in California, although that is a long shot.
Wells will win the ball, Vanney will keep it

LA Galaxy are in mixed form, having won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five MLS 2026 games. They are coming into this one on a high, however, after winning 2-3 away earlier today and should be able to transfer that momentum into this game.
Colorado Rapids have also played five, won one, drawn two and lost two of their fixtures, but they were on the wrong end of a 0-3 defeat at home to St. Louis City SC in the US Open Cup 2026 on Wednesday, so that could affect them here.
Tactical approaches
This game has a nice bit of contrast about it, stylistically speaking, as Vanney's possession-based 4-2-3-1 system and selective counter-pressing means that LA Galaxy will look to control the tempo of the game, using their wide overloads and quick vertical breaks to pick their moments.
Rapids boss Matt Wells is a high-tempo, high-pressing coach that is a mirror image of Vanney's in many ways, so his side will be looking to win the ball back early, play faster and more physically than their opponents and dominate the territory.
Goals and chances are likely
The Rapids are more of a 'press and harass' team, so there will be plenty of swings in momentum on Sunday. That should play into the hands of Los Angeles Galaxy as they look to pick their spots.
