Ben Olsen has done a great job since taking over as coach in November 2022, instilling a control-based style that is geared to stifling opponents and making use of the ball when they have it. Raphaël Wicky, who was appointed earlier this year, seems to have made the team more positive and it has certainly been a more possession-based structure that has them scoring and creating more.
Houston should try and smother the ball when Sporting KC build-up and Wicky's 4-2-3-1 with high wingbacks and quick transitions could lead to some end-to-end play. However, in recent weeks Sporting KC have been wide open at the back, losing 4-3 away to FC Dallas and 3-4 at home to Philadelphia Union, either side of a 3-1 home win over LAFC.
