- Form: The Galaxy have won two consecutive games and are 3-1-1 in their last five, including a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rapids, while the Timbers have lost three consecutive games.
- Home defence: Galaxy have conceded just 18 goals in 14 home matches during MLS 2026.
- Timbers away: Timbers have lost nine and won just two of their 13 away matches in MLS 2026, conceding 26 goals in total.
Galaxy in the groove
The Los Angeles Galaxy are the team in form ahead of Thursday's MLS 2026 clash with Portland at Dignity Health Sports Park, where the Timbers are likely to struggle again. The Galaxy are 15th in the standings with 36 points from 28 games and the visitors are 20th with 32 from 27, but the hosts are on a two-game winning streak.
Players and coaching
Greg Vanney has done a decent job with the club since taking over in December 2020 and his 4-3-3 system always looks structured, even if he does like to press and play direct in transition.
- They also have Joao Klauss with seven goals in 11 games, so the Galaxy will always have a threat in the box and the best chances of winning this contest.
- The Galaxy have been in particularly good form since the MLS 2026 restart, following a 1-1 home draw with Seattle Sounders FC with a 2-3 away win at Minnesota United and a 3-2 home win over Colorado Rapids.
- However, the Galaxy have a little more bite, with Marco Reus providing three of their eight goals across the last five matches, and could nick it.
Portland situation
Portland, who have one win, one draw and three defeats from their last five, were in much worse shape before a 3-1 away loss at San Jose Earthquakes last time out. Their previous two results, a 0-1 loss to Atlanta United at home and a 3-1 defeat at San Jose, must have taken the wind out of them badly.
Portland have a new coach at the helm with Marti Cifuentes having been in charge since July 2026 and he has tried to get them back into a positional game, with more possession and a compact mid-block.
Prediction and odds
But Portland's new coach won't make this easy, and this one is definitely a draw possibility.
The 1.9 favorite is perhaps a bit short and both 3.3 on the visitors and 4.1 on the draw look attractive. Backing over 2.5 goals at 1.38 looks good for a game where two teams with goals in mind will be trying to break the deadlock and with both teams to score at 1.36 also recommended.
