Plymouth Argyle have been in excellent form since the appointment of Tom Cleverley as head coach in June 2025, winning four of their last five and three in a row. The Pilgrims, who are 3rd in League One 2026/2027 with 13 points from seven games, have been in no doubt as the favorites to win this game against Burton and that seems very reasonable given the two clubs' contrasting forms.
Aribim Pepple is the top scorer in League One 2026/2027 with two goals in six games for Plymouth, who have the personnel to dominate possession and territory, with Cleverley's 3-at-the-back formation and high press suffocating teams both with and without the ball.
- Plymouth's last three results have been a 3-2 away win at Doncaster Rovers, a 3-0 home win over Barnsley and a 4-2 away win at Blackpool, so they clearly possess the sharpness to break down a solid defense.
Brewers will look to frustrate hosts
Form and position
Burton, who are 12th in the table with nine points from seven games, will arrive in Devon as the underdogs but look to have been outclassed in the betting market. They have won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five and should be able to frustrate Plymouth at times, but lack the quality in the final third to do much damage.
Tactics and threats
Gary Bowyer has done a decent job since taking over in December 2024 and his Brewers are a tidy unit who set up with a compact three-man defence and play on the counter attack. Finn Delap is Burton's top scorer in League One 2026/2027 with two in five games, and he will give Burton some hope of getting on the scoresheet. But Plymouth should have the edge in terms of territory and possession, while Cleverley's constant rotations of his wing-backs and full-backs should ensure there's enough pressure on the Burton goal at some point.

A Plymouth win is our main selection for this match at Home Park as they have the form, quality and motivation to take the game to Burton and secure a result. The Pilgrims are the favorite, but at 1.63, they still offer value over Burton at 5.0 and the draw at 3.9.
Over 2.5 goals also looks a good bet at 1.7 and we'll go for Both Teams to Score at 1.67 as well given both sides have been involved in some end-to-end games of late.
