Top-heavy Puebla versus balanced Juárez
A lot has been said and written about Puebla’s playing style under Albert Espigares, who took over in November 2025, but nobody has mentioned that they’re the better football team in the matchup. Juárez are a high-press, counter-attacking, transition-focused side.
They’re compact and organized in defence, and look to make it 3v2 or 4v3 in attack by moving players vertically to exploit open lanes.
Puebla are more top-heavy in comparison with Édgar Guerra, their Clausura leading scorer, and E. Lozano, who have been the only consistent outlet for their creativity in a season of few goals.
- Óscar Estupiñán leads the line as the main danger man, and is an effective counter-attacker and powerful aerial threat on second balls.
- Guilherme Castilho and José Luis Rodríguez are good midfielders who do a little bit of everything, scoring and assisting, while also driving the transition from defence to attack and vice versa.
- K. Velasco is their main assist provider and is a good passer and creator from wide and advanced midfield roles.
Puebla can prevail in a tight and tense match
Juárez are just one place above Puebla in the Clausura table, sitting on 14 points from 11 matches (4W - 2D - 5L, GD -2) while Puebla have 12 points from 12 games (3W - 3D - 6L, GD -5). These two sides are both outside the top eight in the Liga MX 2025-2026 Clausura table and need three points desperately to have any chance of making the Liguilla.
This is a mid-table six-pointer. Puebla have been inconsistent, winning twice, drawing once, and losing twice in their last five Liga MX matches.
They ground out an important win at home against Tigres and got another vital away win against a struggling Atlético San Luis. Juárez have been more unpredictable, winning twice and losing three times in their last five Liga MX games.
They picked up a huge win away at América, but couldn’t get anything from the other two road games, which is why they are in the bottom half of the table.
Espigares is developing a more stable base
Managers and systems
Pedro Caixinha took over FC Juárez in December 2025 and has developed a system that is working well for the squad, but it’s very much a ‘mold your players’ approach, whereas Espigares is trying to build something new and develop younger players into a solid, stable base.
Selection
Both teams to Score - Yes is the main selection for this match because these teams are so similar in their respective development but they will both have plenty of pressure to find the net at some point in the game to get the three points they desperately need.
Head-to-head and outlook
The head-to-head between these two has been fiercely contested, with Juárez winning three of the last five and a 4-4 draw in October 2025. Puebla did edge out a 1-0 win when the teams last met at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc, but this time around I’m expecting a little more of a struggle.
The weather should be mild and clear, so neither team will have an advantage due to playing in conditions they don’t like. The draw is certainly the most likely outcome, but a narrow Juárez win is also a possibility, although Puebla may have a bit more in the tank due to the altitude and home crowd later on in the second half.
I’m taking the odds on a Puebla win for a small stakes bet because they are at such a high price. They can get the game close and make it a chess match, which should suit their system. The set pieces could be a factor here and Puebla are a threat from both corners and free kicks.
