Norwich City are the 53/100 odds-on favourites to beat League Two Milton Keynes Dons in the second round of the EFL Cup at Carrow Road on Saturday. The Dons are 19/4 to progress to the next round and the 31/10 on the draw looks very fair indeed, but we're going to stay away from the match result markets and take the goal markets on this occasion.
Over 2.5 goals at 13/20 and Both Teams to Score - Yes at 73/100 make the most appeal here, especially as MK Dons arrive in the stronger nick of the two sides. Norwich boss Philippe Clement has made an impressive start to his time in charge of the Canaries after taking over on 18 November 2025. He has brought a 4-2-3-1 system with plenty of structure, a high-tempo press and aggressive trigger points, and Norwich are a very different prospect to the one we saw early in the season.
Milton Keynes Dons boss Paul Warne has led a similar resurgence since taking charge on 15 April 2025 and his side look compact, direct and dangerous at pace when in wide transitions. MK Dons have won three of their last five, drawn once and lost once with some impressive results including a 3-0 win at home to Tranmere Rovers and a 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.
Norwich more likely to control, but MK can make an impact
The Canaries have been stuttering of late with just one win in five, following back-to-back games - a 0-0 draw at AFC Wimbledon and a 1-2 home defeat to Osasuna.
Norwich have a very clear game plan, which they stick to and they will look to wear teams down when they're on top. They play with discipline in the build-up, high full backs and they overload the half-spaces in the final third, which can push teams back onto the ropes.
With MK Dons being a more vertical side that will look to play quickly and physically in wide areas, the stage is set for an encounter of possession control versus transitional punch. The likeliest script is a Norwich win, but we're expecting a more lively Cup clash than a plodder with the 2.5 goals mark easily beaten and both sides getting on the scoresheet.
