- Home form: Rayados have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their six home games in Liga MX 2026/2027.
- Away form: Chivas are undefeated in six away games in Liga MX 2026/2027, winning two and drawing four.
Chess match on the cards at Estadio BBVA
Chivas de Guadalajara are a touch favorite for their Liga MX visit to Monterrey on Sunday at 2.55, but they are not much ahead of Rayados at 2.45, with the draw coming in at 3.4.
Chivas have three points more than Rayados in the Liga MX 2026-2027 standings, but both teams come into this matchup in mixed, but promising form.
Monterrey, who beat Pachuca 2-1 at home last weekend, have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five matches after a 1-1 away draw with Club América and a 4-2 away defeat to Atlante.
They are eighth in the table with 17 points from 11 games, while Chivas are fourth with 20 points from 12 matches after consecutive 1-1 draws away to Atlas and at home to Tigres.
Monterrey can make the most of quick turns
Tactical battle
Matias Almeyda, who has been in charge of Rayados since 1 July 2026, has installed a more vertical, high-tempo and pressing game where the emphasis is on turning possession over quickly, loading up wide and playing the ball forward immediately.
Gabriel Milito, who has been Chivas coach since 26 May 2025, has built a team around structured possession, clean exits and controlled circulation in the middle third with the ability to accelerate into the final third when appropriate.
So it should be a high-intensity chess match where Monterrey attempt to create chaos out of turnovers while Chivas try to slow the tempo down and keep the ball.
Form and prediction
As there is not a great deal to choose between these two teams and both are in decent shape, it seems like a toss-up. However, there are some other angles to consider.
Chivas are a typical away-day grind side, with two wins and four draws in 2026/2027 away from home, so the draw could be a play here. But, as Rayados have only conceded seven goals in their six home fixtures in 2026/2027, a win seems unlikely for the visitors at Estadio BBVA.
Expect a goal-fest from both sides
However, an alternative play could be to take Over 2.5 goals at 1.75 here as both sides have the attacking quality to find the net at least twice.
- Lucas Ocampos has been the main weapon for Monterrey this season with five goals in seven Liga MX appearances, but the addition of Diego Rossi has added some spark to their game and the former LA Galaxy man has two goals in his last five games.
- Chivas have Santiago Sandoval to contribute with two goals in their last five, but they have shared the scoring load around with six goals in their last five.
- Rebaño Sagrado can't match Monterrey's home record, but they have scored 9 goals in six away league matches – which gives them a chance of scoring at least once in this tricky fixture.
