- Team position: CF Atlas Guadalajara are third in the Liga MX 2026-2027 table with 21 points from 12 matches.
- Opposition standing: Puebla are 12th in the Liga MX 2026-2027 standings with 16 points from 12 games.
Two teams heading in opposite directions
CF Atlas Guadalajara have been in inconsistent but positive form with two wins, two draws and one defeat across their last five matches in all competitions. Atlas have played out two draws in a row at home and are in search of a win at Estadio Jalisco. The Rojinegros have not been at their most fluent in front of their own crowd recently, but they should have enough in hand to get past a Puebla side that are in poor form.
La Franja have not shown enough to be considered among the top seven or eight in Liga MX 2026-2027 and have had to settle for 12th place with 16 points from 12 rounds of play. They are still in touch with a good portion of the division but, with nothing going their way at the moment, they're chasing momentum rather than the top end of the table.
Head-to-head record and recent performances
Recent meetings
The last three meetings between these two sides have been won by Atlas and Hernan Crespo's men have Puebla's number at the moment.
Recent performances
- The Rojinegros have a slightly better recent record and have been the better of the two in their two most recent games, a 1-1 draw at home to CD Guadalajara and a 2-0 away win against Necaxa.
- Puebla have gone in the opposite direction in the same period, losing 1-0 away to Tigres, then drawing 1-1 at home to Leon and following that up with a 0-0 away to Tijuana.
- That has left La Franja with no wins, three draws and two defeats from their last five.
Puebla play to order and like compactness in the middle third
The way this game will go is a chess game between Puebla's structured side and the more pressure approach of Atlas. Crespo's side play out wide from the back and they will be looking to win the ball high up the field, which should suit them at Estadio Jalisco, as they can pin their opponents in and win the game in transition.
Puebla, who have had a new manager at the helm since 1 July 2026, have opted for order and structure under Gerardo Espinoza, who likes his side to be compact in the centre of the field and play vertical football. Their lack of goals is holding them back, however, and Eduardo Mustre's three in six Liga MX 2026/2027 appearances make him the sharpest weapon in La Franja's attack.
Two sides with contrasting strengths and weaknesses
We'll take the better team and the team with the best recent record, and that's CF Atlas, for the win on Monday. Atlas are the odds-on favorites at 1.69 with the draw at 3.3 and Puebla at 4.5. Their head-to-head and recent form all point to the Rojinegros, who should have a little too much for the visitors.
Luis Esteves is the man to watch for the Rojinegros as he has four goals in ten Liga MX 2026/2027 games and he looks to be Atlas's most reliable finisher up top. As an alternative, there's value in the Over 2.5 goals market at 1.84 as Atlas like to push the pace and can play into their own transitions.
