Chivas can hold up their end
Club America and CD Chivas de Guadalajara, two of the most supported teams in Mexico, go head to head at Estadio Banorte in the 2026-2027 edition of the Clásico Nacional on Sunday. The home side will be looking to hold on to the second spot in the Liga MX 2026/2027 table that they have occupied for most of the season, with their 16 points from 7 matches keeping the pressure on the top spot.
Chivas, meanwhile, have been in great nick of late, smashing Club Tijuana 5-2 at home before a 1-1 draw away at Pachuca and a 3-0 success at Atletico de San Luis. They occupy fourth spot in the table with 14 points from 7 games, just two points behind America in second.
Gabriel Milito has done a terrific job at Chivas since taking over in 2025, moulding them into a compact, disciplined, yet highly effective unit. They like to control the midfield zones and use their high line and numbers in pressing the ball to break forward when the opponent's press gets frustrated. They are solid at the back and won't be pushed around by América, while Ricardo Marin has been their main threat in attack with four Liga MX goals in seven appearances this term, three of which have come in their last 10.

Guillermo Almada's style has been more proactive than anything seen in Mexico City since July 2026, with América pressing with structure and looking to attack through fast transitions, full-back thrusts and vertical play rather than playing through the middle. At home, they have been perfect with three wins from three, but their 4-3 away loss to Cruz Azul showed they can be got at when the opposition is on their game.

The draw doesn't look all that likely, however, so we will take both teams to score at 1.62 with the over 2.5 goals option at 1.8 also appealing, given that América are a very powerful attacking force and Chivas are a little more balanced in that respect.
