- Recent form: Troyes have lost 3 of their last 5 games in all competitions (W1, D1).
- Visitors' form: Marseille have lost their last 5 matches in all competitions.
- Away form: Marseille have lost both their Ligue 1 2026/2027 away games so far, failing to score on either trip.
Troyes’ tempo is too slow for Marseille
There will be a clear difference in the tempo of play when ES Troyes AC and Olympique Marseille clash in France on Sunday. Stephane Dumont's ESTAC have played a moderate tempo in Ligue 1 2026/2027 and it has been reflected in the results so far, they are 16th in Ligue 1 2026/2027 with four points from five games.
Dumont has been Troyes' head coach since August 2024 and his 4-4-2 is a compact system built around structure, youth and quick counterpunches. It has looked fine on its face, but the results are not good enough and Troyes are already under pressure near the drop zone after five rounds of games.
Marseille are in even worse shape, lying 17th in Ligue 1 2026/2027 after picking up just three points from their first five games. It's a disappointing start for the Phocéens, a club of much bigger ambitions than the rest of the bottom half.
Both teams have been poor on the road
So the Phocéens have not looked good on their travels, nor have Troyes, who have not won either of their home games in Ligue 1 2026/2027 (D1, L1). The home edge doesn't look particularly strong right now, even if Troyes enter the game in better form than their visitors.
That's far too short for a side that has lost five of five and I'd much rather take the 3.75 draw in an ugly clash of two off-key teams.
- They have lost five straight games across all competitions, including defeats in Ligue 1 2026/2027 to Rennes and Paris Saint-Germain, and a Europa League mauling at Besiktas.
- Troyes lost back-to-back away games to Lille and Angers in their final two league matches, then had a 2-2 draw with Dijon in a friendly which at least stopped the bleeding.
- Marseille are 1.85 favourites, with Troyes priced at 3.8 and the draw at 3.75.
Gouiri could be key to Marseille’s result
Tactics
Bruno Genesio has been in charge of Marseille since July 2026 and has brought a more aggressive press and vertical style of play to the club, but it has not borne fruit so far this season. The clash of styles between these two teams should lead to a very interesting game, with Troyes looking to sit compact and hit Marseille on the counter, while the visitors will look to pressure Troyes' line of possession and then break with numbers wide.
Key players and betting
Antoine Mille is Troyes' main threat this term with one goal in five Ligue 1 2026/2027 games and he will need to be on his game to make an impact against this Marseille defence. Amine Gouiri has four goals in five Ligue 1 2026/2027 matches and is Marseille's most prolific finisher, so he will be the most reliable source of goals for the visitors on Sunday.
Marseille are rightly favourites to beat Troyes, but don't look like a sure thing even though they are 1.85. Both teams to score, yes, at 1.5 is a solid bet and I think the odds are a little generous. Troyes have scored 1.00 and conceded 3.00 goals per game at home so far in Ligue 1 2026/2027.
