- Home form: Motherwell are winless in two home games (L2).
- Away form: St. Mirren are winless in their last three away games (L3).

Back the visitors at 3.85
Odds and context
Motherwell are the slight favorites at 1.81 for Saturday's clash against St. Mirren at Fir Park, but the Buddies, who are 3.85, offer great value as they look to back up their recent 2-1 home win against Dundee FC. The draw is available at 3.9, which does look quite a bit short considering both of these sides are in fairly poor form.
Form and tactics
Alfred Johansson has been in charge of Motherwell since July 2026 and has installed a higher tempo, possession first style of play that relies on pressing opponents and playing with width. The Steelmen come into this one in brutal shape, having lost five in a row in all competitions.
A 3-1 defeat away to Aberdeen was followed by a 2-1 home win over Dundee FC, and that was some relief after a poor run of results for the Lanarkshire side.
Buddies can bite
St. Mirren, who are sixth in the league on 13 points from ten games, are on a worse streak overall, winning one and losing four of their last five in all competitions. However, the Buddies do at least seem to be over a slump and will fancy their chances of getting a result against a Motherwell side that have nothing going for them right now.
Craig McLeish, who took over at the Paisley club in March 2026, has got his side to play in a compact, structured and controlled style that keeps the ball well and transitions nicely when in possession. Motherwell, on the other hand, are 10th in the 2026/2027 Scottish Premiership table with eight points from nine games – leaving them scrapping near the bottom.
So this could be a close game, with the clash of styles perhaps leading to an end-to-end game if Motherwell can force St. Mirren into mistakes in the build-up.
The odds still suggest a home edge, but Motherwell's form is so bad that we're steering clear of the home team even though the visitors are a little short.
- Killian Phillips is the top scorer for St. Mirren in the 2026/2027 season with three goals from three games, but Alex Lowry has been Motherwell's spark since the start of the season with two in seven – but both of these guys are in need of support because the Steelmen have scored just three goals in the last five games.
- The head-to-head record between these two sides is pretty even, with two Motherwell wins, two draws and one St. Mirren victory in the last five.
- Their most recent meeting finished 3-3 at St. Mirren Park, although their poor away record means we have to look elsewhere for value on this fixture – even though that last clash shows there's plenty of bite.
